Year 10 Cycle: Akoonah Park Men’s Shed
As part of their Cycling and Outdoor Education program, our Year 10 students recently participated in an educational excursion to the Akoonah Park Men’s Shed.
During the visit, students were introduced to a range of valuable bicycle maintenance and repair skills that are essential for safe and effective riding. Working alongside experienced volunteers, students learned how to repair punctured tyres, replace and adjust bike chains, check and maintain brakes, and complete general bike safety inspections.
The hands-on workshop gave students the opportunity to build practical problem-solving skills while developing confidence in maintaining their own bicycles. Students were highly engaged throughout the session and demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication, and willingness to learn new skills.
The excursion was a fantastic real-world learning experience that highlighted the importance of bike maintenance, safety, and community involvement. We would like to thank the volunteers at the Men’s Shed for generously sharing their time, knowledge, and expertise with our students.
UrbanSurf Excursion – VET Sport & Recreation
Students in the VET Sport and Recreation class recently visited URBNSURF Melbourne as part of their Water Safety and Rescue unit. During the excursion, students developed valuable practical skills in water safety awareness, rescue techniques, and emergency response procedures.
The day also provided students with the exciting opportunity to experience surfing, where they demonstrated teamwork, resilience, and confidence in the water. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that connected classroom knowledge with real-world application
Year 10 Phillip Island Cycling Excursion
Both Year 10 Outdoor Education classes recently travelled to Phillip Island for a cycling excursion as part of their Cycling unit.
Students enjoyed a scenic bike ride from San Remo then around Churchill island, taking in the beautiful coastal views while building their cycling fitness and skills. Throughout the day, students also explored the rich history of the Phillip Island region and gained a deeper understanding of the local environment and heritage.
The excursion was a wonderful combination of physical activity, outdoor learning, and historical discovery
Year 9 Cycle: Hallam Valley Trail
The Year 9 Cycling class recently completed a practical riding session at the Hallam Valley Trail. During the session, students demonstrated their practical mountain biking skills and riding competence on the 20 km trail. This activity directly linked to the knowledge and techniques developed throughout the term and formed an important part of their practical coursework assessment.
Students should be congratulated on their enthusiasm, effort, and continued improvement in their cycling abilities.
