Year 7 Humanities – Exploring Deep Time Ancient Australia
This term, our Year 7 Humanities students have been exploring History with a focus on Deep Time Ancient Australia. Students have been investigating the rich histories, cultures, and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, recognising that First Nations cultures are the oldest continuous cultures in the world.
Working in pairs, students researched different Aboriginal nations from across Australia. Each group explored important aspects of their chosen nation, including language, cultural practices, a notable person from that Nation, traditions and beliefs.
Throughout the unit, students are developing valuable teamwork and research skills while deepening their understanding of the diversity and complexity of First Nations cultures. Students have shown great curiosity and respect as they learn about the enduring connections Aboriginal Peoples have maintained with the land for tens of thousands of years.
We are proud of the thoughtful discussions, creativity, and collaboration demonstrated by our Year 7 students during this important unit of study.
