Tech Talk

Dear parents and carers,
As mentioned in the last newsletter, strategies and information on device use at home, based on current research and data, will be offered in our newsletter each fortnight.
Hopefully you will find them helpful in solving any issues that you may be experiencing with usage at home. They will be simple guidelines that you can adjust to suit your needs.
The best place to start is obviously screen time, whether it be tablets, laptops, phones or even televisions. It is important to note that these devices are not “evil”, instead it’s about what constant stimulation does to a developing nervous system. When the brain doesn’t “rest”, behaviour starts speaking for it. Parents and teachers too, can miss this because the signs look like attitude, laziness, or even defiance. In reality it’s overload. A dysregulated brain can’t self soothe, focus or listen, no matter how match you explain. Research is now showing that when stimulation drops, calm returns. Slowly. Naturally.
In the next newsletter there will be a list of what actually shows up when screen time crosses the line. You probably already know some of these reactions already.
