Coalminers Cup
On Tuesday St Xavier's sent 7 teams to participate in the annual Coal Miner's Cup here in Gunnedah. It was the 32nd year of the event, with St Xavier's participating from the very first year!
They students played in U10's and U12's tackle and U12's girls league tag. It was a great day of fun and the students played well in every division. The students had a great time and showed excellent sportsmanship and teamwork. The shield was voted for by each school who participated and was awarded to Boggabri Public School this year. This year's special guest was ex-nrl player Tony Butterfield, who took photos and spoke to the students about playing NRL. They were all very excited to see his premiership ring in person and there were tubs of Newcastle Knights training shirts and shorts handed out which was greatly appreciated by all the students.
A massive thank you to our parent team managers for helping on the day, to be able to give so many students such a great opportunity was amazing and we couldn't do it without them!
Anne Singleton Netball
On Thursday, 30th of April twelve students from Year 5 and Year 6 played in the Anne Singleton Cup. It was a great, but very busy day. We played 6 games against other local school teams.
The girls played hard and came away with 4 wins and 2 losses. We were called up at the last minute for a spot in the semi final and through determination and teamwork they won right on the hooter! It was a great game!
Our St Xavier’s team were commended for their sportsmanship by many spectators and they were great representatives for our school.
Thank you to Miss Gallagher for coaching the team and umpiring all day for them.
The team is headed for the grand final this Saturday at 9.00am.
