Our Grade 5/6A students are running hands-on STEM sessions using Bee Bots, which are small, programmable robots designed to introduce early learners to basic coding and problem-solving skills in a fun and interactive way to the kinder students at One Tree Altona North.

Anzac Day

Our College acknowledges Anzac Day. After the fighting at Lone Pine on the slopes of Gallipoli, an Australian soldier from western Victoria found a pine cone from a tree that had been a landmark on the battlefield—hence the name Lone Pine. During the battle, the original tree was destroyed. The soldier carried the cone with him until the end of the war, fighting on the battlefields of France before returning to Australia in 1919.

Seeds were later taken from the cone, and three of them germinated. One was planted at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne; the fate of the other two is unknown. Legacy has since harvested seeds from the Shrine’s tree. In 2012, Bayside Altona North was fortunate to receive one of these seedlings from Legacy—making it a “grandchild” of the original Lone Pine from Gallipoli.

We also extend our thanks to ES staff memberRob Watkins, who generously shared his Defence Force memorabilia with our SRC students.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) is your voice in action. It’s a group of students who work together to share ideas, represent their peers, and help make our school an even better place. SRC members listen to student feedback, raise important issues, and organise events, fundraisers, and initiatives that build school spirit and support the community. Being part of the SRC is a chance to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and make a real difference. Whether it’s improving facilities, planning activities, or advocating for student wellbeing, the SRC ensures every student has the opportunity to be heard.
