Acting Principal Report -

Ms Emily Burgess

Since our last newsletter there has been a noticeable shift in the weather and an increase in coughs and colds. Winter is upon us!

Our Families’ Week Breakfast was a huge success - Rick will be reporting on this through our Wellbeing section of the newsletter.

We have again had much sporting success over the past two weeks with Division Cross Country, 3-6 Aths and Year 5/6 Lightning Premiership. Our Debating Team is headed to Clairvaux this afternoon and we look forward to hearing from them at our next assembly.

Congratulations also Henry L who was recently successful in getting through the School Sport Victoria AFL Team Vic trials.

This coming Friday, we will be hosting a House Hour in the last hour of the day. Our House Leaders have been working behind the scenes developing new chants for each of our Houses which will be introduced to students during this time. The designs for our new House Mascots were revealed at last week’s assembly. We now move to a process to digitise these. Watch this space! Thanks to all students who entered a submission.

Semester Reporting

We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual. The reports will be distributed on Tuesday 23rd June via Compass.

The reports will continue to provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments will not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.

With this in mind, we have brought forward our Parent-Teacher interviews earlier into Term 3, now scheduled on Wednesday 29th July. We will of course be pleased to discuss with you your child’s progress at this time. The Compass booking system will be open early in Term 3.

As always, you can contact your child’s classroom teacher or a member of the Leadership

Team to arrange a meeting with your child’s teacher if needed.

Sports Update from Ms Van Ooi

Cross Country

On Tuesday, 19th of May the following students represented Fyans Park at the Geelong North Division Cross Country:  Iris F, Anneke R, Luna T, Frankie B, Billy N, Claire L, Harriet S, Beatrix W, Maddie C, Liam M, River J, Franklin K, Archer H, Ned F, Senuk G, Olive O and Maddy C.

It was a great effort by all who participated in the wet and windy conditions.

Congratulations to Claire in 5/6L, who finished first in her age group, and Harriet 5/6T, who finished fifth. These two students will be progressing to the Western Metropolitan Region Cross Country in Keilor on Monday 15th of June.

Athletics

Miss Van Ooi is working through the results and will be informing students in the coming weeks if they will be representing Fyans Park at the Aberdeen District Athletics on Wednesday, 5th of August.

Please note that this process does take a while, as the top performers from the Fyans Park athletics day have to drop some events as students can only participate in a limited number of events. This then allows other students the chance to pick up events as we work through the final team.

Also, please see the below from our school’s sports policy if your child is in the 9 or 10-year-old age group:

Whilst the 9-year-old and 10-year old age groups run separately at the Fyans Park House Athletics, they join for the Aberdeen District event. A student who wins an event on the day is not guaranteed to progress to the next level. Times, jumps and throws for both age groups will be reviewed and top results across both age groups will progress to the Aberdeen District event.

Lightning Prem

Congratulations to our Mixed Netball Team, which is progressing to the Divisional level on Thursday 11th of June.
