Wellbeing - Middle School

Every Day Counts

Last week, I had the pleasure of sending emails home to those Middle School students who have maintained 100% attendance so far this year. This recognition is important, as consistent attendance is one of the strongest indicators of student success — academically, socially, and emotionally.

Every day at school matters. Regular attendance allows our young men to build strong routines, maintain continuity in their learning, strengthen relationships with their peers and teachers, and fully engage in the wide range of opportunities that school life provides. It also helps students develop important habits such as commitment, resilience, responsibility, and organisation — qualities that extend far beyond the classroom.

From an educational perspective, strong attendance is closely linked to improved academic outcomes, greater confidence in learning, increased participation in co-curricular activities, and a stronger sense of belonging within the College community. Even missing small amounts of school time can make it more difficult for students to keep pace with classroom learning and collaborative activities.

I understand that there are times when absences are unavoidable due to illness or family circumstances, and student wellbeing always remains our priority. However, I also believe it is important to celebrate and acknowledge those students who consistently demonstrate outstanding commitment to their learning through excellent attendance.

At the conclusion of Semester 1, I will look to formally recognise students who have maintained exceptional attendance records. I encourage all students to continue striving for consistent attendance and to make the most of every school day. Thank you to our families for your continued support in helping establish positive routines and habits through Shining the St Patrick’s Way framework that allow our students to thrive.
