Foundation News

Term 2 has certainly started on a wonderful note. It has been lovely to see so much fantastic learning happening in our classrooms, with students showing eagerness to take on new challenges and learn more each day.

Thank you for your support with Show and Tell. We have really enjoyed listening to the students share their favourite animals, interesting facts, and confidently answer questions from their classmates. It has been a fantastic opportunity for students to build their speaking and listening skills.

We are very lucky to have a chrysalis in each Foundation classroom. We will be carefully following the instructions to look after them as we watch the incredible transformation into butterflies. The students have been very excited to learn about the butterfly life cycle and enjoyed a hands-on craft activity where they created the stages of the life cycle using pasta and rice. We also have a stick insect in our classroom, which the students have been very curious about and love observing.

In Maths, we have continued working on partitioning numbers. As a challenge, students have been breaking numbers into three parts. For example, the number 10 can be partitioned into 5, 4 and 1. Some students have also begun recording this using number sentences such as 5 + 4 + 1 = 10. Students have also enjoyed building city towers using a specific number of blocks, which has been a fun and engaging way to explore number concepts.

In Writing, students have been working hard to write clear sentences and are using our ;Bump It Up' wall to help improve their work. We are focusing on including who, what, and where in our sentences, which is looking fantastic. We are also continuing to develop neat handwriting. It has been wonderful to see some students practising their sentence writing at home and proudly sharing their work at school.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Year 2 News

IMAX Theatre

On Wednesday 28th April, our Year 2 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to the IMAX Theatre for a valuable learning experience.

The students watched a 3D film titled The Arctic Adventure, which took them on a breathtaking journey through the icy landscapes of the Arctic. Wearing their 3D glasses, the children were amazed, as animals appeared to come right out of the screen and the frozen environment felt incredibly real.

This excursion linked closely to our classroom learning, as the students are currently reading the novel The Last Bear. The film helped deepen their understanding of Arctic environments, wildlife, and the challenges faced in these regions, making the story connections more meaningful and engaging.

The students represented our school beautifully, showing enthusiasm, excellent behaviour, and curiosity throughout the day. It was a memorable excursion that supported and enriched their learning.

Year 4 News

How far can an origami frog jump?

Last week, the Year 4 students combined their Mathematics and STEM skills by creating jumping origami frogs! After carefully folding their frogs and practising their jumping techniques, students completed three attempts to see how far their frogs could jump.

They measured and recorded each jump in centimetres, then identified their best result. As a class, we collected all of our data and used it to create bar graphs to visually represent the results. It was a fun and engaging way to explore measuring, recording data, and graphing skills!
