Year 1 Information

Term 2

Welcome to Term 2! We hope you all had a relaxing break. The Year 1 team is excited to jump back into our second term of learning for the academic year. We encourage all parents and carers to check the newsletter each week to stay updated on all the exciting events happening at Chatswood Public School.

Year 1 Number Screening Check

The Year 1 Number Screening Check is a short statewide assessment that tells teachers how your child is progressing in early number sense. Some children find developing number sense challenging, so it is important these children are identified quickly. The main purpose of the screener is to provide your child’s teacher with information which will allow them to plan for your child’s learning and any specific support they may need. Your child will sit with the class teacher and will be asked to answer 30 questions. The screener normally takes up to 15 minutes. If your child is struggling the teacher will stop the screener. The screener is carefully designed not to be stressful for your child. There is no preparation required for the screener. Our Year 1 students will be completing the Number Screening Check between Week 4 and Week 6.

Lining Up for Drop Off and Pick Up

A friendly reminder that students need to be dropped off between 8:30 am and 8:55 am. Students can place their bags in their lines before playing in the park. They can be picked up from these lines when the day ends at 3:00 pm. If you are unable to collect your child on time, you can enrol them in After School Care.

We appreciate all parents dropping off at the gate in the morning, as this supports a smooth and settled transition into classrooms.

Attendance - It Matters

A reminder the school term ends on Friday 19th December.

Please submit all absence notifications via the School Bytes application.

Applications for international or domestic travel for 5 days or longer must be requested through the school office, with an “Extended Leave - Travel” form completed and flight details provided.

If your child is away for consecutive days due to sickness, please notify the teacher via School Bytes for each day your child is absent. You may be asked to provide a medical certificate for absences of 3 days or more.

The CPS Behaviour Expectations

The three behaviour expectations at Chatswood Public School were developed through consultation with students, staff, and parents, and are as follows:

  • I care for myself.
  • I care for others.
  • I care for the environment.
