Respectful Relationships

As part of the Wellbeing Curriculum implemented across Sandhurst Schools each fortnight we will share topics being covered in the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program.
Foundation
In Respectful Relationships, the Preps are talking about what it means to be a good friend and not a good friend. They are having discussions around what they can do to make sure they’re a good friend to others.
Grade 1 and Grade 2
In Respectful Relationships, the Grade Ones are learning about Positive Coping. They have talked about and practised some ways they can solve problems in the yard. They checked everyone knew how to play ‘Paper, Rock, Scissors’ because this is a fair way to decide who goes first in a game, or who gets to pick something first. The children also practised ‘Square Breathing’ as a calming technique for when they are angry, annoyed or upset. ‘Square breathing’ is a technique that focuses on the breath to help calm us down and reset. You can see an example of it in this Guided Square Breathing for Children clip.
Grades 3/4
In Respectful Relationships, students will identify ways that they are similar to and different from others and describe things they do that help them to cope with challenge or stress. Students will also explore how emotional responses can be stronger or weaker. Students will practise using words that can help them describe the strength or intensity of different emotions.
Grade 5 and Grades 6
In Respectful Relationships, the Grade 5s and 6s have been looking into the Rights of the Child and how we can walk together to display our rights through our actions at school. We will be moving into Positive Coping in the coming weeks!
