Welcome to our Science program for Term 2.

This term our students will be exploring the strand of PHYSICAL SCIENCE. Physical Science is the study of matter, energy, motion, and forces. These elements help us to understand how the universe works. Here is a snapshot of what our scientists will be up to this term.

Preps

The Preps will explore the way objects move. They will be investigating the movement of

differently shaped objects, such as blocks, tubes, and eggs, when rolled down a slope. Throughout the lessons, students will develop their Science inquiry skills. They will take part in simple, hands-on, explorative activities allowing them to question and predict scientific ideas, plan and conduct investigations, process, analyse and then evaluate and communicate their findings.

Year 1/2

The students will be inquiring into the concept of forces, with a focus on describing pushes and pulls in terms of their strength and direction and predicting how these forces impact the motion and shape of objects. The students will engage in hands-on activities by observing and manipulating everyday objects and identifying the forces responsible for their movement. They will recognise that applying a force can change an object's motion. They will design and represent push and pull forces in various contexts and explore these concepts through the lens of traditional toys.

Year 3/4

Our Year 3/4 students will be exploring the different types of forces, including frictional,

gravitational, magnetic and electrostatic. They will learn that force can be exerted by one object on another through direct contact or from a distance and affect the motion (speed and direction) of objects. They will also learn how to use force arrows to represent the direction and magnitude of forces acting on an object. The students will also be involved in a range of hands-on investigations to support students to work scientifically as they answer questions, test predictions and identify the attributes of a fair test.

Year 5/6

Our 5/6 students will explore the different forms of energy and how they can be transferred and transformed, and the generation, transfer and use of electricity in our daily lives. Intercultural understanding is developed as students consider how essential electricity is to their daily life and the lives of people in another country. The students will be involved in many hands-on activities. They will work scientifically as they carry out a range of experiments.

Looking forward to another term filled with new learning and fun lessons!

Kind Regards
