Italian

Welcome to Term 2 Italian
Benvenuti!
Our Prep students will be learning to count from 1–10 while building their confidence through songs, games and interactive activities. We will enjoy singing along to “Caro Gesù” for our prayer and playing fun counting games like “Tante pecorelle”.The Preps will also be introduced to the story Sogni d’oro, where they will explore new vocabulary about family and bedtime routines, and practise using Italian numbers in context. I look forward to watching their continued enthusiasm as they join in with actions, work with partners, and begin to recognise and use simple Italian words and phrases.
The 1/2 students will be building on their knowledge of numbers by extending their counting from 10-20 and recognising these numbers in games and activities such as Tombola. They will also be introduced to telling the time using simple phrases like che ore sono? and sono le…. Students will explore the engaging story Mangia Mangia, where they will learn new vocabulary related to food and participate in fun, interactive games and role-play. It will be wonderful to see the 1/2 students developing their confidence as they read, speak and respond to Italian in a variety of enjoyable ways.
The 3/4 classes will be exploring the topic Il tempo libero (leisure time). They will learn how to talk about hobbies and interests using key verbs such as giocare, leggere, ascoltare, ballare and guardare, and will practise expressing their opinions using mi piace and non mi piace. They will engage in songs, games, partner interviews and interactive activities like Simon Says and Tombola to develop their listening, speaking and reading skills in a fun and engaging way. As the unit progresses, students will begin to build simple sentences and short dialogues in Italian and will be able to confidently ask and answer questions about their likes and dislikes.
The 5/6 classes have had an engaging start to their Italian learning in Term 1. They began developing their skills in building simple sentences and expressing themselves in Italian, beginning with talking about how they feel and their age, and gradually moving on to writing a short paragraph about themselves to read in front of the class group.
They have been practising reading aloud with confidence and working with buddies. They will continue to build on these skills for a few more weeks in Term 2. The students will then continue to build on their confidence in the Italian language through storytelling, role play, and bilingual plays, focusing on pronunciation, expression, and teamwork while engaging with fun and meaningful texts such as Strega Nonna.
I look forward to sharing in many engaging activities with our wonderful students!
