Learning and Teaching

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Term 2! We hope all our families enjoyed a joyful Easter and a relaxing break. It’s wonderful to see our students return refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning.
We are delighted to begin the term with the Sorrento Writers Festival, where our students will have the opportunity to hear from a fantastic line-up of authors, including Penny O’Loughlin, Stuart Wilson, Sally Rippin, Jane Goodwin, Andrew Daddo, Andrew McDonald and Ben Wood. This is a wonderful opportunity to inspire a love of reading and writing and we look forward to seeing our students engage with these talented storytellers.
Our Faith Based Inquiry (FBI) this term is History, with a strong emphasis on understanding how the past shapes our present and future. Students will explore stories, perspectives and experiences from different times, helping them to develop a deeper appreciation of the world around them. They will be encouraged to ask questions, think critically and make meaningful connections between historical events and their own lives. A key focus will be on caring for creation, learning from Indigenous perspectives and considering how our actions can contribute to a more just and sustainable world.
Each year level will explore the following big questions:
Prep: Called to take care of God’s creation, how can we enjoy it and keep it beautiful for all to enjoy over time?
Year 1/2: How can learning about our past help us care for creation today?
Year 3/4: How can we be responsible for taking action to ensure we sustain a harmonious balance in the world as our Indigenous people taught us?
- Year 5/6: How can Australia’s history lead us to act for justice, reconciliation and the common good?
Across the term, students will engage in rich learning experiences including discussions, research, hands-on activities and opportunities to take action within our school and wider community. We look forward to seeing their curiosity grow as they explore these important ideas.
We look forward to a rich and engaging term ahead, filled with learning, curiosity and growth.
Kind regards
Megan Barber
