WPS Community Children’s Garden

Thirty-five students attended our first Garden Club for 2025 – a record attendance for a first class! With no one at the garden for the past 6 weeks, the weeds were taking over, including in our outdoor classroom. Our task – weeding! We learnt how important it is to remove the roots as well as any seeds and flowers, to prevent the weeds resprouting and recolonizing.
As reward for everyone’s hard work, before heading back to class we raided the garden. Everyone walked away with handfuls of fresh, healthy produce - raspberries, kale, spinach, tomatoes, chives, etc.
Volunteers needed
WPS gardening programs cannot run without the help of volunteers. There are a myriad of mental and physical benefits to both children and adults who visit veggie gardens and outdoor green spaces. If you would like to help out in either of the Woodend or Carlsruhe veggie gardens, please contact volunteer parent Nicole (details below; Woodend) or your Grade 4 student’s teacher (Carlsruhe Garden).
