Year 10 Work Experience: A Week of Learning and Growth
This week, our Year 10 students took a significant step toward their future careers, participating in the annual Work Experience program. 26 embraced this valuable opportunity, spending the week gaining real-world insights and hands-on experience in a range of industries and workplaces.
Exploring Diverse Career PathsOur students have ventured into a variety of roles, showcasing their adaptability and eagerness to learn. Placements included:
- Local Schools: Some students joined classrooms as teacher aides, assisting with lessons and gaining a firsthand look at the rewarding field of education.
- Hutcheon and Pearce Cowra: Students here delved into agricultural technology, learning about the importance of innovation in farming practices.
The BEE Centre: Students had the opportunity to work with young children, assisting educators in creating engaging learning experiences and fostering a supportive environment for early development. This placement offered invaluable insights into the vital role early childhood education plays in shaping young minds.
- CEA Technology Canberra: Aspiring engineers and tech enthusiasts experienced the fast-paced world of cutting-edge technology and innovation.
- Boorowa Hospital: Students interested in healthcare shadowed professionals, gaining valuable knowledge about patient care and the inner workings of the medical field.
- The Many Local Tradies: From carpentry to electrical work, students teamed up with local tradespeople, honing practical skills and learning the importance of precision and problem-solving in these hands-on professions.
Lessons Beyond the Classroom Throughout the week, students discovered what it takes to succeed in the workforce, including time management, teamwork, and effective communication. Many employers commented on the students' enthusiasm, professionalism, and willingness to tackle new challenges.
A Positive Step Forward For most participants, this experience solidified career aspirations, while for others, it opened up new possibilities they hadn’t considered before. Each student returned to school with a greater appreciation for the skills and dedication required in various fields, as well as a renewed focus on their future goals.
