Excursion to Melbourne: A Memorable Adventure for Our Students
In week 6, Year 9, 10 and 11 students embarked on an exciting educational and cultural journey to Melbourne, a trip that proved to be both enriching and unforgettable. From the moment we boarded the train from Yass to Melbourne, the anticipation and excitement were palpable.
Staying in the Heart of the City Our base for the trip was the Space Hotel, a vibrant and modern accommodation perfectly situated for our activities. Students loved the central location, which allowed them to immerse themselves in the bustling city atmosphere.
Exploring Melbourne’s Iconic Attractions
The adventure began with a visit to the Melbourne Zoo, where students participated in an engaging educational session on evolution and big cats. This hands-on learning experience left everyone inspired, particularly the opportunity to observe the lions up close—an awe-inspiring moment that will be remembered for years to come.
Next, we ventured to the Melbourne Aquarium, where students marveled at the diverse marine life. A special highlight was meeting Pesto the Penguin, who quickly captured everyone’s hearts with his charming antics.
Adding a thrilling twist to the trip was a ghost tour of the Old Melbourne Gaol. Students explored the eerie corridors of this historic site, learning about its haunting past and infamous inmates. The tour combined history with just the right amount of spookiness, making it a favourite among the group.
The trip also included a visit to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where students were inspired by the history and scale of this legendary sports venue, out tour guide Malcolm was a spritely gentleman whose knowledge of the venue would be unmatched, he also took any opportunity to sledge on Collingwood. To round out their city experience, students explored the Bourke Street Mall, enjoying some well-earned shopping time amidst the vibrant Melbourne retail scene.
A Sudden Change in Plans
Unfortunately, due to the proposed NSW train industrial action over the weekend, we had to adjust our plans and return home a day earlier than expected. The students took it all in stride, boarding the V-Line train for the journey back. Dedicated staff were ready and waiting to pick everyone up at Albury, ensuring a safe return to Boorowa.
A Trip to Remember
Despite the unexpected change in schedule, the Melbourne excursion was a resounding success. Students not only broadened their horizons but also strengthened friendships and created lasting memories. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff who organized the trip and to the students who represented our school so beautifully.
We look forward to more adventures in the future!
