Term 1, Week 2 - Friday 7th February, 2025

Welcome to Term 1, 2025

It is hard to believe that the first 2 weeks of the school year are done.  I congratulate all of the student and staff on the positive way they approached the beginning of the school.  It hasn't taken long to settle into school routines.

2025 Staff

The 2025 staff team is below.

Crossing Supervisor and Awareness Day

Today is School Crossing Supervisor Safety Awareness Day.  This is a day that we can all appreciate Lucy who greets our community each day with a smile and farewells us at the end of day.  It is also worthy to note that one of our parents, Lori Collins, mother Harper in Josh's class is also a crossing supervisor.  Lori is stationed at one of the crossings on Scholar Drive which is just around the corner from OLSC.  Shout out and thank you to Lori, Jervis and Lucy for keeping us safe!

This is also a day to remember the importance of this role and remind us to alway travel safely around schools.

Prep 2026 Family Information Night

If you or any of your friends have a 4 year old at kinder it is almost time to enrol for Prep 2026.  Our 2026 Enrolment infoirmation night will be held at school on Wednesday 26th February at 6:00pm.  All of the St Andrew's parish primary schools conduct their information nights on this evening as we are zoned.

Our enrolments for the 2026 school year open on the 3rd of March.  Enrolment Enquiry Forms (the first step in the process) are available on our website.

Well Done Prep 2025

A huge shout out to the prep students on how well they have settled into school life.  Gillian, Natasha, Dasanthi, Rachael, Emma, Tina, Jamie and Teagan have been delighted how well they have transitioned to primary school. They truly are a credit to their parents, families and teachers.

Welcome to OLSC

This year we welcomed four new staff members to the OLSC team.  We are pleased to welcome Tian De Lange, Moe Moe El Zin, Anthony Preston and Leeza Oravec.

Tian has joined the LSO team and working with the LC4 team, Moe Moe is working with the 1/2s in LC1 and Anthony and Leeza are working in LC2 with the Year 4s.  We were all excited to welcome back Leeza as she returned from Canada to join our staff team full time.

All are welcome to attend.

Major Dates 2025

Last Friday you all should have received a laminated card containing the major dates for 2025.  There is a magnet attached to the back side of the form for this to be kept on your fridge.  We initiated this last year and was very well received and appreciated by our families.  Our aim is assist you all in planning for your family regarding major events.

Please note that on the form that you received the March closure day was reported as Monday 7th March and is actually Friday 7th March.

Prayers for Amanda

As you are all aware Amanda had a major setback with her health as she suffered a stroke in November.  She has now been moved to rehabilitation at Royal Melbourne in Parkville. Many of us have been to visit with Amanda and it is heartwarming to see her making great improvements.  Though she has a long road to recovery she is currently having frequent and intensive treatment with Royal Melbourne Speech Therapists, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapy.

A Little Carpark Reminder

As we begin the new year there are a couple of car park reminders and requests.  The

goal of all of us is for students to arrive and depart safely from school.  Within just a short distance from OLSC there is Manor Lakes College, Western English School and numerous kindergartens and early centres as well as the carpark and traffic from the rail line so it is up to all of us remain patient and follow the road rules.

If using the school carpark, once the pick up line is full please utilise the spaces before queuing and blocking the driveway.  If using the pick up / drop off lane the driver must remain in the car and students manage to get themselves in and out if the car.  Please use a carpark if your child needs assistance as this will keep the car line up moving.

Community Masses are Back!

Our community masses are set to start again this year. Please join us on Sunday 16th February at 10:00 am for the first Community Mass for 2025.  It's important that as many of us as possible attend these events, not only to celebrate as a community but also to build the momentum as we prepare to build our new church.

58 Squat Challenge 2025

Our P&F Committee have signed up to participate in the 2025 58 Squat Challenge.

Did you know that 58 people in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer each and every day. The incidence of breast cancer is increasing with more Australians being diagnosed than last year.

Your support of the 58 Squat Challenge funds world-class breast cancer research that will help us achieve our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.
