Secondary Athletics Carnival

On Wednesday last week, the SASI grounds came alive for our 2026 Sports Day, a fantastic celebration of community and athletic prowess. The atmosphere was electric, defined not just by the high level of competition across all year levels, but by the deeply inclusive spirit that made the day truly special.

Every student played a vital role, whether sprinting for a podium finish in competitive heats or earning valuable points in our community events. The sea of imaginative costumes and the roar of house chants, led by our House Captains and coordinated by Mrs Edwards, transformed the day into a vibrant spectacle of house pride.

The competition was fierce, but ultimately, Emerald emerged victorious. Winning by a narrow margin, Emerald stood out not only for their athletic dominance but for their sheer volume and enthusiasm during the chants. Their teamwork was tireless, with every member contributing to their winning point tally.

Of course, a day of this scale involving over 500 students and staff does not happen by accident. It was a masterclass in organisation by our Health and Physical Education (HPE) team. Their expertise ensured the carnival ran smoothly, fairly, and safely. I would like to personally thank the HPE department and all staff members who gave their time and energy to make the day a success. Congratulations to all our competitors!

Hand-crafted medieval models

Year 8 History students study the medieval period, focusing on Europe, the Aztecs and the Polynesians. One of their assignments is to create a model representing an aspect of Medieval feudal life, which could include the role and responsibilities of nobles, the church, knights or peasants.

The students recorded a photo diary throughout their construction process and created and answered four historical questions related to their model.

Weapons were a popular model choice, and we had multiple cardboard axes, swords, and a helmet. One student even used a 3D printer to create her sword (after designing it with her father on their computer). Other students made castles, farms, a plague doctor mask, and a full-sized dress.

The models that generated the most excitement in the class were the two loaves of bread, one of which was baked with a mixture of flour and sawdust to replicate what the peasants had to do in this time period.

The students thoroughly enjoyed making their models, and loved getting to present them to their classmates.

Year 12 Compass Conference in Canberra

Earlier this term, the Year 12 House Captains and College Captains had the opportunity to attend the Compass Leaders Conference held in Canberra. This event brings nearly 300 student leaders from across the country together and is an excellent time to develop leadership skills, faith, and friendships.

Over the 5 days, students had the chance to hear from experienced Christian speakers and the opportunity to visit significant national landmarks, including the Australian War Memorial and Parliament House, where the Prime Minister was present, and they could watch question time.

Some key takeaway messages included:

  • knowing the Big story you are a part of
  • grounding your foundation in God's plan, and
  • Mourning is a part of our growth.

Our Year 12 leaders were asked to listen with the intent of sharing what they learned with their peers once they returned to school. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our College, and we look forward to watching our 2026 leadership team lead the way in creating a positive environment for all to benefit from.

Veta Morphus Retreat

Both our Year 11 and Year 12 Veta students enjoyed their first of three weekend retreats, as part of their studies in VetaMorphus, a Cert III in Christian Ministry and Theology.

29 Emmaus students, accompanied by Mrs Nicole Brookes and Mr Adam Wood spent a weekend at Mylor Adventure Camp with nearly 100 other students from across South Australia. In total their are over 220 students across SA studying VetaMorphus this year!

The weekend was a time of community, worship and teaching, with the teaching sessions focused on how we read and understand the Bible. Dr Matt Gray of Tabor College presented the sessions, encouraging us to look at the bigger narrative of the whole Bible, reading the Bible in it's context, and how we apply it to our lives.

Our Emmaus students were able to lead all the students in times of worship and prayer. We were so very impressed with how they conducted themselves all retreat, and we look forward to the next retreats coming up in May then August.
