From The Team

What an incredible term it has been in the Senior School! Over just nine short weeks, we have seen outstanding growth across all areas of learning. Students have challenged themselves, built confidence, and shown resilience as they tackled new concepts and skills. It has been wonderful to watch their independence develop, along with their ability to think critically and work collaboratively.

In Maths, students have been diving into our recent PONT unit on Types of Numbers and Patterns. They have explored number relationships, identified patterns, and applied their understanding in a range of engaging and challenging tasks. It has been fantastic to see students building confidence and developing their mathematical thinking.

Our recent learning in Reading has centred around lakes and rivers, using our new lesson structure. Students have found this approach highly engaging, and it has supported them to better analyse and understand texts. This learning has been seamlessly integrated into our Informative Writing, where students have been conducting detailed research in preparation for creating an exciting information report on their chosen lake or river. We look forward to seeing their creativity come to life as they use Canva to present their final pieces.

Respect has been a major focus across the Senior School. Following a very effective session, students worked thoughtfully to brainstorm what respect looks like in our school and how they can demonstrate it towards their peers. They have taken great pride in this work and now proudly represent their commitment by wearing their Respect wristbands.

A massive congratulations to all students who completed NAPLAN last week. It was a busy and sometimes challenging time, but students showed perseverance and gave their very best effort. We are incredibly proud of the way they approached each assessment.

This week, our 3/4 students have also begun their swimming program. There has been a real buzz of excitement, with students showing enthusiasm and a willingness to challenge themselves in the water. We look forward to seeing their confidence and skills continue to grow over their remaining lessons.

Finally, our 3D printers have been hard at work, slowly bringing students’ personalised keyrings to life. We are very excited to reveal these creations and to share the next stage of this project in the coming term.

We are so proud of the effort, enthusiasm, and positive attitudes shown each day. The progress made this term is a true reflection of students’ commitment to their learning, and we look forward to building on this strong foundation in the term ahead.

Try This...

Freddie was given the task of painting number plates for 100 apartments. So, he had to paint all the numbers from 1 to 100. How many times did he have to paint the number 8?

Harmony Week

On Wednesday the 18th of March, SPS had our special Harmony Day assembly. We got to wear our traditional clothes or orange t-shirts. It was really fun to see what everyone was wearing!

We also had a Scoresby Superstars session, and there was music playing while we high-fived the younger and older kids. Some students went on stage to show their outfits and explain where they were from and if they were traditional or not.

We had an awesome time learning about different cultures and diversity. It was really interesting to hear where people were from and how they celebrated their culture. We also learnt why we wear orange on Harmony Day.

Winter Sports - Netball

On Friday the 20th of March, both the boys’ and girls’ netball teams went to Winter Sports. Netball was the first sport to get off the bus. The boys played their game first, and then the girls played after them.

Both teams did really well and won their first game out of six. In the next game, the boys lost but the girls won again. Then we had a short 5-minute break. After the break, both teams played two more games. The boys won one and lost one, and the girls also won one and lost one.

After that, we had a 20-minute lunch break. We ate our food to get energy and practised our passing. Then we played one more game. The boys lost by just 1 point, but the girls won their game.

At the end, both teams made it to the finals to see who would go to Division. The boys won their final game, and even though the girls lost, they came 2nd overall. So, both teams still made it to division! Everyone had a great day and demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day!

Winter Sports - Soccer

On Friday the 20th of March, some of our senior school students went to play soccer at Winter Sports. First, we got on the bus with all the other teams. When we got there, we got off the bus and did a warm-up before our first match.

Our first game was against St Lukes, and they were really good. We tried our best, but we didn’t score any goals and they beat us.

Then we had a short break where we had some water and some people went off the bench. After that, we played again, but we didn’t win that game either.

Next, we played against Heritage. We scored 2 goals, but they got 2.5 points (which was confusing), so they still won. At the end, we all said “good game.”

After that, we played against Knox Central School. This time we did really well and won 3–2! We were really happy, and we all said “good game” at the end. We all tried very hard and had a great day.

Winter Sports - T-Ball

On Friday the 20th of March, some students went to play T-ball against other schools. We felt really happy but also a bit nervous.

When we got there, we practised together to get ready for our games. We played 4 games during the day and won one of them. We did some really good batting and made some awesome catches.

We showed respect to the other teams and always tried our best. It was a really fun day!
