From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends,
It's hard to believe we are 7 weeks into the year and only a couple of weeks away from the end of term 1. Over the next few newsletters, I am planning on aligning my newsletter articles to our school values. This last fortnight, we have seen many examples of our students and staff aspiring through their words and actions. Below is a breakdown of some of the aspirational work we are doing.
ASPIRE
At Lysterfield Primary School, the value of Aspire is about striving to do our best, embracing leadership opportunities and continually learning and improving. Over the past few weeks we have seen many wonderful examples of this value in action across our school.
Firstly, congratulations to our Grade 6 Student Leaders, who have embraced their leadership roles with enthusiasm and responsibility. These students play an important role in helping lead our school and supporting younger students. We also congratulate our Student Voice Council (SVC) leaders, who represent the ideas and perspectives of students across the school and help ensure student voice continues to shape our school community. Our SVC leaders are Asha B, Austin H, Zoe C, Levi W, Aidan C, Poppy W, Zac G, Riley D, Ryan Y, Maggie G, Asher R, Mayah L, Tamara J and Quentin D.
We would also like to congratulate the following students who have progressed to the Division Swimming Championships: Mitch C, Alfie H, Lachie K, Reggie P, Archie P, Blair S, Ryder W and Harry Z. Competing at this level is a fantastic achievement and reflects the dedication and effort these students have put into their training.
Our Year 3 and Year 5 students have also been demonstrating the value of Aspire as they participate in NAPLAN this week. We are proud of the calm, focused way students have approached these assessments and the effort they have shown in doing their best.
Aspire is not only something we encourage in our students, it is also reflected in the work of our staff. Over the past two weeks we have welcomed several groups of educators from other schools who visited Lysterfield Primary to learn about our teaching and learning practices. Recently we hosted the Knox Network Assistant Principals, who came to see how we are implementing the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0 across our school. This week we also welcomed the Outer East Career Start group, made up of graduate teachers beginning their careers in education. During their visit, our staff showcased the work we have done to establish strong classroom routines and clear expectations that set the conditions for learning in every classroom.
These visits reflect the strong work happening across our school and the culture of continuous improvement we are building together. When students and staff aspire to keep learning and improving, it strengthens outcomes for everyone in our Pegasus Family.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Adam Wight
Principal
