School Wide Positive Behaviour - Reward Update

We are excited to share that our school has successfully reached our SWPBS reward target!

It was announced at Monday’s assembly that the winning reward, as voted by students, is a 30-minute whole-level game. What a fantastic effort by everyone in consistently demonstrating our school expectations and collecting tokens!

Throughout this week, classes have been timetabling their 30-minute whole-level game sessions. It has been wonderful to see students celebrating their positive behaviour, teamwork and commitment to our school values in such a fun and active way.

Our Community House Captains have also been busy visiting each class to collect student votes for the next reward we will be working towards. Thank you to our  Community House Captains for showing such great leadership, and to all students for having their say.

The new reward target will be announced at assembly on Monday. Stay tuned!

Let’s keep up the positive choices and continue working together to reach our next goal.

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a whole-school framework that promotes positive behaviour, improves student wellbeing, and creates safe and supportive learning environments. This allows our school to create a positive and predictable environment where students know what’s expected.

It focuses on:

  • Teaching expected behaviours explicitly

  • Acknowledging positive behaviour consistently

  • Using data to guide decisions about student behaviour and support

POPS Matrix of Expected Behaviour

Our matrix of expected behaviour, which was developed by the teachers and students, is visible in each classroom and around the school. The matrix is split into different areas and explicitly teaches the students the expected behaviour for the different learning areas. Teachers and students are continually referring to the matrix and teaching the behaviours:

Behaviour Flow Chart

Students and teachers then created the behaviour flow chart. The behaviour flow chart lists minor and major behaviours and the steps the teacher or adult will follow when a student is not meeting the expected behaviour. This allows for a consistent approach when responding to minor and major behaviours:

Responding to Positive Behaviour

Students are rewarded when they are showing the expected behaviour, and in term 1, we are continuing with our whole school reward system, led by our Community House Captains, who came up with the rewards. The students have voted for a whole school reward they would like to receive in term 1.

The Community House Captains will announce the two winning rewards at assembly on Monday.

When students show the expected behaviour from our Matrix in learning spaces and in the playground, they can receive a token from a staff member. They can then vote for one of the two selected rewards. Each class can receive 5 tokens when they achieve their classroom goal. When one of the reward boxes is filled or when the tokens run out, students will receive the winning reward!
