From the Principal

March 5, 2026

This week at POPS, our Foundation students shone at assembly as they shared their learning about identifying the first letter of their names. We also extend our thanks to the PA team for their ongoing work. Although the Welcome Back Evening was cancelled due to storms, their preparation was greatly appreciated.

On Tuesday night, they hosted psychologist Emma‑Rose, who delivered a valuable online session for parents on supporting children to manage uncomfortable feelings. She encouraged families to help children define the problem, name the feeling, brainstorm a few possible strategies, try one, and switch to another if needed, while praising their effort in problem‑solving rather than the outcome.

ATTENDANCE

During last week’s assembly, we launched our new monthly attendance award, recognising the class with the highest attendance. Congratulations to 3/4M, who achieved an outstanding 95% attendance for February.

We are asking families to support strong, consistent daily attendance. While absences due to illness or mental health needs are completely understandable, we are noticing an increase in avoidable absences, such as missing school every other week or taking holidays during term time. These patterns can disrupt learning, routines, friendships, and social confidence.

We have also seen a rise in late arrivals this week. Arriving on time helps students settle into the day calmly and ensures they don’t miss important morning routines and learning.

NAPLAN 2026 – Year 3 and Year 5

NAPLAN Online begins on Wednesday 11 March and will continue until Friday 20 March 2026. During this period, all Year 3 and Year 5 students will complete assessments in writing, reading, language conventions, and mathematics.

At POPS, we work to ensure NAPLAN feels calm and familiar. Teachers have been guiding students through the online platform, practising sample questions, and revisiting key skills so they feel prepared and confident.

We are proud of our Year 3 and Year 5 students for the effort and positivity they bring to their learning. NAPLAN provides useful information, but it is just one moment in time and only one small part of each child’s broader learning story.
