Foundation
The Preps have been focusing on the oral segmenting and blending of words using pictures. They are identifying beginning and end sounds, and this week they have been listening for the /m/ sound at the beginning and end of words.eg. mat, man, jam, maths, mop, mug and ham.
In their writing session they have been ordering the procedure for making a dog puppet.
Prep children have been writing sentences using first, next and last. Their handwriting has been concentrated on the correct formation of the letters s, t, and m.
Grade Prep’s story book is ‘Grandpa and Thomas’ by Pamela Allen. They have been identifying events that happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. They have also talked a lot about the characters in the story.
Gr 1
The past fortnight, Grade Ones have been generating sentences and combining sentences. They are learning about two spelling patterns that make the Long e sound: /ea/ (leaf) and /ee/ (tree). There isn’t a rule to help know which spelling choice to make so these ones are a little tricky. Children need to rely on what looks right and then remember the correct spelling choice.
Grade ones are also revising common digraphs learnt this term (ck, th, ch, ai, ee, oo, ay, ea). As a group, they are reading the text, ‘Super Pug’ and they are also revising the role of verbs and what they are, through song.
Next up, grade ones are going to be learning about nouns and that a noun names a person, place or thing.
The Grade One storybook this week is “Let’s Get a Pup,” by Bob Graham. They will focus on the following vocab from this story: immediately (adverb), briefly (adverb) and glance (Verb).
Gr 2
Grade Two children are beginning the week by revising the spelling patterns and tricky words learnt this term. They will complete a progress monitoring assessment to see how well they can apply the spelling patterns and rules that they have learnt.
They will finish discussions around their story book, “The Lost Girl,” by Ambelin Kwaymullina by completing a story map which details the main events in the story. Children will identify the main characters, what happened in the middle of the story and how the story ended.
Grade Twos will continue their lessons on pronouns, focusing on the pronouns ‘me’ and ‘us’ this week. The children will be introduced to the topic of persuasive writing via a text called ‘My Favourite Season.’
The children have been practising forming letters correctly and will work on the correct placement and starting points for the letters ‘d’ and ‘g.’
Foundation
In Mathematics, Grade Prep children have been counting to ten forwards and backwards and have been ordering numbers to 10. They are learning to match collections to their numerals from 1-5.
Gr 1
In Mathematics, Grade One children will be counting and working more on place value. They will compare and order numerals to 120 and will use number lines to order numerals. They will complete a place value assessment this week.
Gr 2
In Mathematics, the Grade Twos are finishing up their unit or work on ‘Time’ (Measurement). They have looked at time on an analogue clock to the hour, half hour and quarter hour (quarter to and quarter past). They are currently learning how to read a calendar, to know the difference between day/date and to locate events and dates on a calendar.
Gr 3 and 4
In Literacy,students have been reading Wongutha Tales, which contains a collection of short stories. They have read How the Crows Became Black and Why Emus Can’t Fly. Students have been focusing on vocabulary development and sentence-level writing, including different sentence types and appositives. During spelling sessions, students have been learning about short and long vowel sounds. They have also been practising handwriting, with a focus on correct letter formation.
In Mathematics, Students have been learning about telling time on an analogue clock, as well as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. During lessons, students have been developing strategies to help them solve problems.
In Science, students are learning about communities in the future, including how they change, the rules that shape them, and how they may evolve over time. They are also making predictions about what communities might look like in the future.

Gr 5 and 6
In Mathematics, all students have been learning about area and perimeter this week, and being able to calculate the area and perimeter of shapes.
In Literacy,the Grade 5 students are finishing their unit on ‘War Horse’ this week and completing their persuasive writing.
Our Grade 6 students are finishing the book ‘The Silver Donkey’, and also finishing their fable writing. Students have been working on a fable that has a moral or a lesson, and includes animals as the characters.
In Science, the Grade 5’s have started a new topic called 'Space Travel’ and the Grade 6’s will be starting their new science topic next Term all about ‘Earth, Moon & Sun’.
In Humanities, the Grade 5’s are studying a history unit called ‘Australia in the 1800’s’ and the Grade 6’s are finishing off their unit all about ‘The Globe’. Next Term, the Grade 6’s will begin learning about ‘Spread of European Empires’.
