Skye Vanderhoek shines in FORTE

Year 12 student Skye Vanderhoek recently performed in the professional dance production FORTE at The Cube, showcasing her talent as part of a high-level and visually striking performance. Currently studying HSC Dance at Trinity, Skye embraced the opportunity to be involved in a production of this calibre, performing alongside accomplished dancers in a demanding and rewarding environment.

Choreographed by internationally recognised choreographer Tim Podesta, FORTE is a captivating production that blends classical ballet with contemporary dance. The performance brings together innovative choreography and powerful storytelling, creating a memorable experience for audiences and performers alike.

Skye was also well supported on the evening, with our Principal, Dr Adrian Johnson, and his wife Leanne in the audience to enjoy the performance and celebrate her achievement.

For Skye, the experience was both inspiring and affirming, as she continues to pursue her passion for dance while exploring future pathways beyond school. Her involvement in FORTE reflects her dedication, talent and commitment to her craft.

We wish Skye all the very best for the year ahead as she balances the demands of Year 12 with her ongoing dance training and aspirations.

Senior School Play

By Pradip Adhikari, Performing Arts Captain

Students from Years 7–12 have been diligently working every Wednesday afternoon on the Senior School Play, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by William Shakespeare. The production is fast approaching, with performances on Thursday, 30 April and Friday, 1 May.

Here is a sneak peek into what this story entails:

On the eve of the Duke’s wedding, four Athenian teenagers run away to the forest while a group of tradespeople rehearse a play as part of the celebrations. Unknowingly, they wander into a feud between the fairy king and queen. A fairy named Puck makes both the teenage boys fall in love with the same girl and turns one of the tradespeople into a donkey to play a trick on the fairy queen. In the end, the magic is reversed; the two young couples reconcile, the Duke is married, the tradespeople perform their play, and the fairies offer blessings to them all. While the audience is left to consider if it was all a dream!

The special and exciting challenge about this play is that the students are in charge! They direct the scenes, brainstorming ideas for movement as well as how they can utilise the space to tell a compelling story. For this show, students have also had to navigate through the difficult Elizabethan language and learn how to articulate this language while developing characters that are recognisable to a modern audience. There has also been some great mentoring from the older and more experienced students, which allows those who are beginning their acting journey to learn effective tips on blocking, tone and a range of other aspects of acting. Students have also put together the costumes and props to help bring the story to life.
