At our first Eco-Warrior meeting, teachers discussed the importance of keeping our school environment clean and caring for both our classrooms and school grounds. Eco-Warriors were asked to report back to their classes about what items should be placed in general waste bins and what can be recycled. They also checked that their classroom has two bins and that the appropriate posters are displayed to help students correctly sort their waste.

The Year 2 Eco-Warriors spoke at assembly about the importance of placing the correct items in the appropriate bins, helping to remind everyone how we can all contribute to keeping our school clean and sustainable.

We are encouraging students to bring nude food to school each day to help reduce waste. Nude food means packing snacks and lunches without disposable packaging, such as plastic wrappers or foil. Instead, we encourage the use of reusable containers, beeswax wraps, and lunchboxes with compartments. By making this small change, we can significantly reduce rubbish in our schoolyard and help the environment! If children do bring wrappers to school, they will be asked to take them home in their lunchboxes to be disposed of there. Thank you for your continued support of this initiative.

In STEM this term, the Year One students explored the topic of "That's not a bag, that's a...". After identifying the RENEW, REUSE, RECYCLE symbol on supermarket bags, the students were challenged to follow a problem-solving process to design and create a new use for a brown paper bag. This involved much planning, cutting, sticking fun to reimagine their bag. They also had the opportunity to explore how paper can be recycled to make "new" paper.

We look forward to seeing our Eco-Warriors continue to lead by example and help make Malvern Primary School a cleaner, more sustainable place for everyone.
