Italian Day – Che Bella Giornata!
What a wonderful celebration we had for Italian Day! The school was filled with excitement as students enjoyed a range of engaging activities that celebrated Italian language, culture, and traditions.
Many students came dressed in Italian-themed costumes or in the colours of the Italian flag. The school was a vibrant sea of red, white, and green! The day began with a lively parade, where students proudly showed off their fantastic outfits while walking to the sound of Italian music.
Throughout the morning, students took part in a variety of creative craft activities that were both fun and educational. Some students designed beautiful mosaic coasters while learning that mosaics were often found in the homes of wealthy Romans. Others created pop-up Colosseum models or made colourful pasta jewellery. It was wonderful to see the creativity and enthusiasm the children brought to these activities.
We were also delighted to welcome Nadia Cavallo, who entertained everyone with a lively performance filled with singing and dancing. The students loved joining in with many of the songs they already know from their Italian lessons, helping to reinforce language and cultural concepts in a fun and interactive way.
A highlight of the day was our delicious Italian lunch of pizza and gelato, which the students thoroughly enjoyed!
A big grazie to the parents who generously volunteered their time to help on the day and our wonderful staff. Your support was greatly appreciated by the students. Special events like this would not be possible without the support of our wonderful school community both parents and staff.
Mille grazie a tutti!

Ciao from Foundation!
The students had a wonderful time celebrating Italian Day on Wednesday. They enjoyed Italian-themed arts and crafts in the morning while listening to Italian music. Spirits were so high that while gluing confetti onto their 'Ciao' artwork, they spontaneously broke into Italian songs they've learned in Italian class this year! The pizza and gelato for lunch were a big hit. To quote Raven, 'Italian Day was THE BEST DAY EVER!!!'. Grazie Signora Maria, for organising such a fantastic and fun-filled day for the students and staff.
Year 1
Hello,
Week 7 has been a wonderful and busy week in our classroom. It was extra speical this week as we celebrated Italian Day! Hello Families,
"Grazie Signora Maria" from our hearts, for all the wonderful activities, parade and food we enjoyed celebrating Italian Day. We had so many fun things to make and enjoy. We loved making our Roman soldiers' helmets, the pasta necklace and eating pizza for lunch. Also during the week, we continued to think of Coleen on her family holiday, made promises to be kind, caring friends and learned the game 'What's the Time Mr.Wolf'' Next Thursday, Year 1and 2 will lead the school assembly, we look forward to sharing what we have been learning.
Year 3/4 AL and 3/4 T
Wow! What a wonderful Italian Day it was! Grazie, Signora Maria and the wonderful team of helpers for such a fantastic celebration. The Year 3/4's were first tasked with creating a 3D Colosseum. After researching what the Colosseum looks like, the students let their creative side free and showcased what they imagined the beautiful backdrop of Rome would look like, using crayons, pencils, oil pastels and craft paper. The students were excited to move onto their next activity, Italian bead jewellery making. Coloured beads were carefully selected and some amazing bracelets and necklaces were handcrafted. To top off an already amazing day, the students had a visit from the wonderful Nadia Cavallo and a delicious Italian lunch! The student's creativity was on full display today and it was so wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm as they took part in each activity throughout the day.
Italian Day
I loved Italian Day,
I loved the food, I loved the Colosseum and I loved to play.
The food was delicious and the pizza was yum,
even the gelato and juice, you probably had some.
I loved colouring the Colosseum, it was popping out,
"Italian Day is the best!" students would shout.
I saw students wearing red and green clothes,
for some pictures everyone would pose.
Italian Day was so fun,
You know who loved it? EVERYONE!

Year 5/6 J- Italian Day Fun!
This week our fantastic Italian Day took place, and Nirav and Kaitlyn have recounted the events in great detail. Here is what they had to say below!
On the 11th of March, It was Italian Day celebrations for Sacred Heart! The school’s palpable excitement was everywhere to be felt, As the school bell rang amidst the morning chill, the parade had commenced and we all got to show off our ‘glamourous costumes’; then we transitioned into our activities packed with absolute enjoyment!
Our first activity was designing paper gondolas with an epic 4d backdrop forming a surreal illusion with just paper and creativity. Despite it being fun and extending our creativity, we did face some challenges. One of them was being a perfectionist and not trusting the process but as they say, ‘go with the flow’. (also if you want to see these magnificent pieces of art and more, you had better come to the art show…)
Then after we had our recess, we had a wonderful incursion from Nadia Cavallo
In Italian the majority of learning is from her resources and her songs have become a primary staple in our learning for 6 years so it was fantastic to have her visit!
Then at Lunch, our long yearned and majestic feast had arrived. After a minute the food was nowhere to be seen. That was how delicious and scrumptious the meal was. The majestic feast was a just slice of pizza, gelato and a bottle of juice for your information.
Lastly we had our final activity, mosaic making. It was our chance to let out our inner artisan inside of us and delve back into how art was in ancient Italy. We first mapped out our design on a 8x8 grid. Then we spread foam clay on a sheet of cardboard and placed our mosaic tiles on the cardboard and we let it dry. Although it was very fascinating and appreciable, it was meticulous work, and that meant we had to be very patient and careful, which was something that we were not very good at doing- But overall it was a great experience!
This was one of the best experiences we have ever had at school and I mean it! Also great shout outs to our organizer and our Italian teacher Maria, the volunteers and teachers. THANK YOU
Year 5/6 M - Viva Italia!
On Wednesday the 11th of March, we had Italian Day. Everyone dressed up in an Italian costume and we did all sorts of fun activities. My favorite was when Signora Nadia came here to sing her songs for us!
We also did lots of Italian art, and grade 5/6s made paper gondolas and mosaic coasters.
For lunch, we were in for a treat (yum yum)! We had Pizza, Juice boxes and gelato. Everyone who paid got a delicious lunch and desert.
Italian Day was really amazing! Everyone enjoyed it and we all would like to thank Signora Maria, who organised this special event. By Layla
Italian day was so fun! I loved the delicious pizza, gelato and juice. And we finally got to meet Signora Nadia In person!! I was so excited for the mini concert, singing familiar songs that we all liked, during the mini concert I was so thrilled. The activities were fun, I did like the mosaics that put our creativity to test. I thank Signora Maria so much for allowing us to have this amazing day. Overall Italian day was AWESOME! And I could replay it over and over again without getting bored. By Callix
On Wednesday the 11th of March 2026, it was Italian Day, it was insanely awesome! And this is what happened.
So everyone dressed up in the Italian colors, an Italian character, or just wore school clothes, because really, it's green like one color of the Italian flag. I personally just wore a green shirt, Italian white soccer shorts and red Christmas coca cola socks.
At the start of school, we had a parade where you and your class had to walk around the multipurpose room and high-five the other classes sitting in a circle.
After the parade, the grade sixes made gondola art with the paper popping up, while the year fives and the year threes did their NAPLAN. There was an option to either make your own background for the gondola or use the template. I, being very creative, made my own. It was very fun, but genuinely very annoying because some others were doing Roman Mosaics coasters and I wanted to do that too, but I never finished my gondola art.
At lunch the whole school got gelato ice cream, either strawberry, vanilla or chocolate flavoured. I got chocolate, because I love chocolate!
I think Italian Day was so much fun, and I really enjoyed it. I know this is my last year at primary school and there's no next time, but it was fun doing Italian day for the last time! By Katalina
On Italian Day we had so much fun! First, we did gondola art, and then we made some coasters with mosaics. After that, we got to meet Nadia and dance to her new songs. For lunch, we enjoyed yummy pizza, gelato, and a drink. It was the best Italian day in the world!!! By Raffaele
On Italian Day we had a lot of fun and we all got some food. In the morning all year 5 did NAPLAN and it was making all of them nervous but all year 5 did a good job.
We came dressed with the colors of the flag of Italy and some people came with very creative stuff. It was awesome and some of the teachers came with the uniform of the Italian soccer team of Italy. It is an awesome uniform. The day was awesome!

On Italian day we did a lot of amazing things like making gondolas and ships. A lot of people did an amazing job. Then when people were done we did mosaic art, they needed magic clay. You make something Italian and I think we all did a great job with the mosaic. And after all of those things, we had lunch. We ate some pizza, a drink and gelato ice cream. A lot of people ate some vanilla. After lunch, Nadia Cavallo came and did a performance at our school. I felt so so excited and I really liked her voice. Then we finished the mosaic and gondola. I really enjoyed everything about italian day. By Kaone
On Italian Day we have lots of fun. When the first hour of Italian day arrived, the school had a mini parade. It’s nice to see what everyone had worn for this event. Sadly, because the 3s and 5s had to go to NAPLAN, they missed out on some of the events, which is fine. Then after recess, we had an incursion of Nadia Cavallo, performing for one and a half hours. It was fun how she included some of us into her performance, singing songs about the Italian language and Italy itself. For lunch we were very lucky, because we had Margarita pizza with a drink and then we had chocolate, vanilla or strawberry gelato ice cream. We had lots of fun and I think it's one of the best events for the year thanks to Signora Maria. We are so lucky to have her at our school as our Italian teacher. By Shamus
On Wednesday the 11th of March it was Italian day. On Italian day we had so much fun because we had pizza, a drink and ice cream for lunch.
When Recess was over and the bell rang it was the time for Miss Nadia who came to our school to dance and sing with us. It was the best day ever!
And my mum made a boat costume for me for Italian day. Everyone wanted to know what it was. By Amy
Italian day was so fun. We did so many activities. We ate pizza and then gelato. We could wear Italian related clothes. By Victoria
On Italian day, we had so much fun!
Unfortunately for the first two sessions of the day the year 3’s & 5’s had NAPLAN. The other years were luckier though. They got to colour, make “block arts” & make gondolas !
After recess we got a visit from Nadia Cavallo and we had a fantastic time listening to Nadia’s songs. Everyone was elated because a youtuber came to school, and that doesn’t really happen very often. After that we had pizza, juice and some gelato. We had margherita pizza, had the choice of apple and orange juice, and had the choice of vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry gelato.
In the last period we had to finish our gondolas and it was fun and hard at the same time. And we also talked a lot. We were with Denise the S.T.E.A.M teacher and then we had a game of Heads Down Thumbs Up.
We also played Tombola with Marty and had a great time! We hope that next Italian day is even better than this! By Viraj & Lawrence
On Wednesday the 11th of March, Sacred Heart had their Italian Day. We sat down and I had fun making a boat called a gondola. I did singing and dancing in Italian.
We ate a cheese pizza. It was good pizza. I also had an ice cream. My favourite flavour is vanilla. By Austin
The day started with a parade, which was super fun. Our class was last. After we - the year 5s - had Naplan and it was actually kinda easy, (says Arvin not Suzie). Suzie: It was so boring. After Recess, you’ll never guess! A YOUTUBER CAME. Her name was Nadia Cavallo. We’ve been watching her for about 6 or 7 years. And I'm being SERIOUS, THAT WAS NOT A JOKE. At lunch we had PIZZA & JUICE! After we had gelato, well, I didn't get it at lunch, I went to parade (Arvin) for soccer. So I got it after we came back to school.

When it was Italian Day on March 11th, everybody dressed up and had red, green and white on their shirt, like the Italian colors. They had pizza and Italian ice cream called gelato and the flavors were chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. And the soccer boys went to Parade College to play soccer at lunch time. By Milad
On Italian Day we made coasters, I made an Italian flag coaster and it had water all around it. Also, Signora Nadia came to our school and she sang lots of really nice songs. We all had such a great Italian Day and my brother got Signoria Nadia’s signature too which was so cool. By Chloe
On Italian Day it is my first time doing Italian day at Sacred Heart. At my old school we had to learn Chinese but I enjoyed it. I don’t know Italian that well. I missed a bit of the parade. I didn’t know any of the songs or dances but I tried my best. It was really fun. I really liked doing the art activities and going to play Soccer at Parade at lunch time. When we came back, we had our gelato to eat because we had eaten our pizza before Soccer. Thank you Maria for organising everything.
