DIBELS/ACADIENCE FAQs
I have had a few questions that I thought would be important for all staff to know when administering and scoring their screeners. Please note that if you have done it a different way, do not do the test again with those students, just start doing it this way from now on. As we still continue to trial these assessments we will continue to get more accurate data.
- EVERYONE: Stick to the scripts. This will really help with all students getting consistent instructions.
- YEAR 1-2: With scoring the NWF - the student only gets the points for WRC if they read the word as a whole (fully blended). If they fully blend the word correctly, then they also get the points for CLS.
- YEAR 1-2: The NWF - take students final answer to mark (whatever they say last). For the french version FNM take the first answer to mark (what they say first).
- YEAR 1-6: With the ORF/FLO - Do not read the title to the students. In the script it says for students to start here (point to the first word in the paragraph). If they decide to read the title that is fine, but only start the timer and the scoring from the first paragraph. The issue we have is that if some teachers read the title, the word may reappear once or multiple times in the text. This means they will be more likely to say it correctly after they hear it. This will affect the scores.
- YEAR 1-6: If they say a word incorrectly and then continue to say the same word incorrectly in the ORF/FLO, it is considered an error each time. Eg. Every time they say 'spoon' instead of 'sponges' it is marked incorrectly each time.
- EVERYONE: If students have an accent or a speech difficulty and you believe they are doing their best to pronounce the word, then you can mark it correctly.
Thank you everyone for giving it a go! You can always reach out with any more questions.
Nicole
