Accountability

Apologies for the delay in sending out the Briefing Notes. With the French Consul's event at AHS and then Parents' Association AGM at 8pm...we were rather occupied.
RAP: 'Marrung Lead' role - Leadership EOI
As part of 'the Marrung Strategy' in Victoria, each Department School in our region has a leader (or two, in our case) responsible for 'ensuring that all Koorie Victorians achieve their learning aspirations'. As part of this role, you are offered attendance at Professional Learning through the Department each Semester and have regular contact from our Koorie Education Support Officers (KESOs) and Senior Education Improvement Leaders (SEILs). Part of your responsibility is to oversee the implementation of CPS 'Reconciliation Action Plan' (RAP), RAP Committee and to support our school to be a culturally safe environment for First Nations peoples.
With Claire and Hannah both due to take maternity leave in Term 2, this position will become vacant at CPS. We would thus love to hear from staff who would like to nominate to take over the 'Marrung Lead' leadership role via the linked form, to be considered by the Principal before Term 2 commences.
Thanks to the work of the 2025 RAP team & Marrung Leads our RAP is already published and much of the work of the 2026 Marrung Lead is already done! The role will be predominantly overseeing and monitoring implementation of our RAP goals alongside the RAP committee. The incoming Leader will be provided a thorough handover and timeline of events and goals to oversee for the remainder of 2026.

Industrial Action - message from DET
The Australian Education Union (AEU) has indicated it intends to take five forms of industrial action from Monday 23 March. The five forms are as follows.
- In the event that an Australian Labor Party Member of the Victorian Parliament visits a school, AEU members who work at the school will stop work for the duration of the visit.
- A ban on performing work unless the employee is wearing insignia, slogans and/or other material concerning the AEU or its campaign about the enterprise agreement.
- Interrupting or stopping work to provide public comments, statements or any other information concerning the AEU campaign about the enterprise agreement including on personal social media, to members of the public or other media.
- Interrupting or stopping work to hand out flyers about the AEU campaign for the enterprise agreement to parents and members of the public and/or to place campaign material on or off the workplace.
- A full-day stop work on Tuesday 24 March 2026.
The Department of Education has asked me to provide you with the following advice.
- In relation to (a), (c) and (d) above, you are reminded that in order to maintain your duty-of-care responsibilities you must provide me with 48 hours’ notice of any planned industrial action. This includes the date and duration of any such action. Any staff intending to take any action in relation to (a), (c) and (d) above must therefore provide me with 48 hours’ notice of that action including the proposed date, time and duration.
- In relation to (d) above, you are reminded that it is inappropriate and unprofessional for employees to discuss the merits of an industrial dispute with students or to involve them in any way in a dispute (for example, the distribution of handbills). Failure to comply in this area may lead to disciplinary action being taken against the employees concerned.
- You are also reminded that meetings of parents at the school must not be used as forums for furthering the union’s industrial campaign and that school equipment, stationery, staff members and students must not be used for the preparation or dissemination of any material for industrial purposes.
In relation to (e) above, the Australian Education Union (AEU) has now scheduled strike action for Tuesday 24 March 2026.
The following steps have been provided to me by the Department of Education. Your support in following these directions would be appreciated and will ensure that as a school we are able to meet our enduring duty-of-care to our students.
- AEU members who intend to take stop work action on this day must notify me of their intention in writing no later than 5:00 pm Friday 20 March 2026. This can be done by email.
- Only AEU members are eligible to participate in the industrial action. Should any other employee participate in industrial action, that action will be treated as unprotected industrial action. Employees who take stop work action must not attend the school premises.
Further information can be found at Industrial Action — Teaching Service: Duty of care | education.vic.gov.au
By working closely with our sub-branch we will be able to provide a coherent and consistent approach during the industrial action.
Janet
