Respectful Relationships

It’s been a busy term so far in the Respectful Relationships space here at Macleod. Some of our initiatives have included:

Year 07/12 buddy program

This year, our year 07 and 12 students are part of a buddy program. This is designed to assist our year 07 students transition into high school life, whilst also providing our year 12 students an opportunity to give back to the Macleod community. There are plenty of activities planned for our buddies across the year, including picnics and sports events. The passing down of knowledge and traditions is a critical component of RR at Macleod College, and we are thrilled to see this thriving.

Open House partnership

We are pleased to continue our established partnership with Open House youth mentoring. Our students had the opportunity to go on excursions and hone their pizza making skills. The Open House Youth Workshop Mentoring Program is dedicated to enhancing student engagement by promoting self-awareness, confidence, self-esteem, improving social skills and relationships, offering hands-on learning experiences, reigniting enjoyment in education, connecting youths with suitable support, providing mentoring, and strengthening family ties while setting goals. Our staff and students are grateful for the opportunity to continue to work with the Open House team to support students.

Rock and Water (Year 7)

This term, our year 7 students have started the Rock and Water empowerment program. Through play-based learning, students will explore what it means to stand up for themselves and others in tricky situations. So far, students have unpacked our College values, and decided on some positive behaviours they’d like to see from their peers. This program forms the cornerstone of RR at Macleod, and we are excited for what the year holds in this space.

Digital thumbprint Cyberbullying Session

Each year, Macleod College partners with Optus to provide vital learning to year 7 students about how to safely navigate the online environment. Students explore the importance of respectful relationships online through compelling scenarios, and are asked to consider their impact when interacting online. Students discuss consent online, and the tools they have to positively support themselves and their peers. We hope that through this program, students have a greater understanding of the impact our actions have online and are able to learn strategies to seek help for yourself or others.

Hold Fast foci

Our year 08-10 students are focusing on Positive Education in Hold Fast for this term. Topics being explored include positive coping strategies, help-seeking strategies, and stress management. Through these sessions, our students are learning to be proactive members of the Macleod community, who are better able to support themselves and others.

How to Help a Friend Session

The wellbeing team provided an informative and interactive session with our year 7 students to equip them with the tools to look out for one another. Students participated in Wellbeing Bingo and formulated Wellbeing first aid kits. We hope that these sessions ensured that students at Macleod College are confident and capable of supporting themselves and others.
