What's happening in Term 1

Bedtime stories

Reading at bedtime does so much more than just establish a calming routine. It plays an important role in the development of cognitive, emotional and social well-being.

Reading every night is an opportunity to:

  • create a special bonding time
  • promote language development
  • be exposed to new words, sentence structures, and narrative patterns that can enhance their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

A short story before sleep can stimulate children's imagination and creativity, transport them to magical worlds and introduces them to diverse characters and experiences.

It is also a large part of what makes reading enjoyable and helps foster a lifelong love for books and learning. Bedtime stories also provide opportunities for children to learn important life lessons such as:

  • moral values
  • cultural traditions
  • develop a sense of morality, empathy and resilience

A large collection of picture story books have been put together for students to borrow perfect for a bedtime story.  These books will be signposted and displayed in the Library over the next couple of weeks.
