Principal's Report
We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.
We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.
May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.
OSHC
To support our families on Athletics Day, OSHC services will be available before school (F-Yr 2 students only) and after school (F-Yr 6 students), if we have at least three children requiring care. Please make your booking with OSHC as soon as possible for the afternoon of Thursday March 28, so that the school can arrange adequate transport and staffing to support our families requiring care. Thank you.
Student Led Conferences
We are delighted to be promoting learner voice and agency through our Student Led Conferences, coming up in the final week of this term. These conferences are being strategically planned for, and explicit teaching is happening with the children, to maximise your child's input and engagement in this celebration of learning. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the date. Please remember, bookings close for the Student Led Conferences next Wednesday.
Feedback on School Policies
We are very proud to be a Child Safe school. Victoria’s Child Safe Standards are a set of mandatory requirements to protect children and young people from harm and abuse.
A range of policies and documents are provided to our families on our website and are available in hard copy through the Administration Office. I welcome any feedback on the contents of these important documents via email. These documents set out the school’s framework for ensuring students are safe:
- Child Safety Code of Conduct: The Code of Conduct sets out the acceptable and unacceptable behaviours in all school situations including school camps and the use of digital technology and social media.
- Child Safety and Wellbeing policy: Our policy is the heart of our child safety framework. It sets out our commitment and approach to creating and maintaining a child safe organisation. In particular, I would ask that you familiarise yourself with the strategies used by the school and note the roles of people in our school for child safety.
- Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations policy and procedures: The policy and procedures set out how the school responds to an incident at the school. This includes mandatory reporting, reportable conduct and the failure to disclose and protect offences.
Volunteer Induction Pack
Our school has provided induction training to potential volunteers for 2024, offering a morning and evening session to support the commitments that our busy families have. We sincerely thank those people that were able to attend and engage in the important information shared during this training. If you are interested in volunteering throughout the year, please contact the school for a Volunteer Induction Pack.
Parking at School and Child Safety
Miners Rest K-6 ask all of our families to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all of our children in relation to road safety. Please ensure that you are parking legally on the roads surrounding our school and dropping off/collecting your child/ren safely. Please do not compromise the safety of your own, or other people's children for the sake of saving 5 minutes. We thank you for your cooperation in abiding by the traffic laws that support the safety of our school community.
Stay safe and take care,
Kylie Nissen.
