YEAR 12 STUDY CAMP

Last week we set off on our adventure as a cohort to the Phillip Island Adventure Resort.

On arrival we unpacked had our lunch and then straight into our activities. This year they included activities such as Careers, All Matters VCE, Canoeing, Raft building, Archery, High Ropes, Giant Swing, Flying Fox, Laser Tag and a relaxing session in the pool. This went well, despite the heat and everyone settled into their rooms and headed to dinner together.

After dinner we had a fabulous guest speaker that spoke to the students about responsible partying and consequences of decisions made. The entire room was enthralled as she spoke and they asked great questions.

Tuesday began quite peacefully after a restful sleep in our very comfortable and air-conditioned rooms. After breakfast off we went for another few rotations of the scheduled activities. Then the storm came over which meant that we had to take shelter from the lightening and the high winds. Staff quickly pivoted the planned night activity to run in the afternoon and then the power went out. The staff rallied and worked with the campsite for some emergency lighting. The generator was used to power the kitchen so we could have dinner.

As the student manager, I could not have been more proud of the cohort. They were co-operative, understanding and compassionate about their circumstances and cared for each other in a way that made us all proud.

Unfortunately, the power did not return until after our departure, but this did not affect our journey, our learning nor any of our experiences.
