Student Safety
D.McCammond - Deputy Principal
Our staff are concerned at the increasing number of students who are being dropped off early or collected late from Footscray Park which is located not far from the school. Having children unsupervised in this area is not safe, particularly as there is play equipment within the park.
The school gates are open from 8.40am each morning with teachers being on duty from that time. We ask that parents and carers drop their children off at this time rather than leaving them at the park.
Every afternoon an Executive member of staff is on duty on the crossing at Sandringham Street. This is to ensure that our students are safe when crossing the road during the busy afternoon period. It has been noticed that many students are crossing the road either on the bend near the preschool or between cars near Gate 1. Often the students are being encouraged to cross the road by parents and carers. It is only a matter of time until a student or students are seriously injured or worse.
We ask that parents set the right example and take the time to walk to the crossing. The few minutes you spend doing this not only shows your child the value of a pedestrian crossing but could also prevent an incident that would impact the whole school community.
The Sandringham Street staff car park can be very busy during the afternoon dismissal time. Some parents have been seen walking through the car park as cars are trying to enter or leave. This car park should not be accessed either in the afternoon or before school. We will also be reinforcing this message with our students.
