CAMPS

Well done to our Year 3 students and staff for enjoying their camp to Anglesea on Tuesday. By all reports, everyone had a fantastic time participating in a range of typical camp activities and making the most of the glorious weather. Thank you to our parents/carers for arriving on time to collect their children from school at 7.30pm. I would also like to thank the staff who attended the camp, supported the students to have such a wonderful experience and stayed back at school until all students had been safely collected.

BOOK WEEK 2026 – SYMPHONY OF STORIES

We are excited to celebrate the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week from Monday 24th to Friday 28th August. This year’s theme, Symphony of Stories, provides an opportunity for our students to celebrate the joy of reading books, creativity and a range of special events. Please see another section of this newsletter for further information about our Book Week activities.

HOW DO TEACHERS ASSESS STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT?

At GWPS, teachers use a variety of assessment tools and work samples to collect information about each and every student’s learning and achievement. This data is carefully analysed against the Victorian Curriculum to determine each student’s level of achievement across the different curriculum areas. This information helps teachers identify student strengths, areas for development and appropriate next steps in learning.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

At GWPS, teachers follow a two-hour English Instructional Model that outlines how we teach English, including reading and writing, across the school. By implementing this evidence-based and consistent approach, our aim is to provide predictable and consistent learning routines across the school. This supports all students to feel confident in their learning environment and assists them to achieve success.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY

This week, a link was sent to all families via Compass inviting them to participate in the Department of Education’s Parent/Carer Opinion Survey. The survey will be open online from Monday 17th August to Friday 18th September 2026. We encourage all families to take the opportunity to provide feedback about their experiences of our school.

FUNDRAISING

Our school will be used as a polling booth for the Victorian State Election on Saturday 28th  November. We will take this opportunity to hold a BBQ and cake stall fundraiser, with funds raised contributing towards a new bike shed and bike racks. More information will be provided closer to the event.

CLASSROOM TABLES

During term 2 we were able to upgrade our year 5 classroom tables.  Therefore, we have a supply of our old classroom tables which we can offer to families for free.  If you would like a table or two please contact the office.
