Year 1/2

Year 1/2 Cluster News

What a great week we have had of coming together as a class and school community! The students have spent time getting to know one another and making new friends as well as thinking about themselves as learners. Thank you to parents who were able to make it to the Parent Information Night. If you were unable to attend, we have sent a printed copy of the notes home in take home folders.

Family photo

We would love a family photo to put on our family wall in the classroom for children to look at during the day, including pets if you have any. Please either send a hard copy photo in or email one to us and we can print it.

Student Representative Leaders

Each class will will vote for 2 students to represent the class in SRC school meetings. You might encourage your child to put their name forward. Students need to be confident to talk in front of the class to say why they would be a good representative e.g. I listen to others and I am a good communicator.

Home Inquiry

You could discuss these questions with your child. This will help your child to be prepared and to confidently join in class discussions:  Where do you use maths in everyday life?

How is it useful?

Reading library books or home books – We encourage approximately. 10-15 minutes each night.

Sound of the week - See the weekly sound and spelling list below. Students can practise these in a variety of ways (look, say, cover, write, check, chalk, whiteboard writing, magnetic letters - be creative!) The aim is to practise their words both written and orally. Have a go brainstorming other words that have the same sound.

Learning for Week 3:

Literacy:  Reader’s Workshop mini lessons: Identify what a strong reader does, know how to choose a book to read, finding a spot to read, building our reading stamina.   Writing Workshop mini lessons: Identify what a strong writer does, know what I need for writing and be prepared, keep my bookmaking folder tidy.  Grammar focus is writing the alphabet (Year 1) and alphabetical order (Year 2).

Reminders

Qkr Lunch and Uniform Orders

Please update your child’s class on the Qkr app to ensure the items get to your child in their new class.

Each day students need to bring the following. Please label everything.

  • Hats
  • Take Home Bags, which are also for Library borrowing.
  • Water bottles
  • A fruit snack, recess, and lunch

Lunch Boxes

A reminder that lollies and chocolates belong at home. Please pack a substantial lunch rather than lots of recess snacks and put an ice pack in on hot days. We also ask that you send in ‘nude food’ which does not include wrappers, as we have found that many end up as rubbish around the school.

Library Borrowing Days

Lessons are on Wednesdays for Year 1/2Z and Thursdays for Year 1/2AK.

Sunscreen

Please apply sunscreen in the mornings. We will encourage reapplication during the day. If your child requires their own sunscreen, please label it and they can keep it in their bag.

Toddle

Information has been sent out by Admin for families to join Toddle. We post important information reminders, student learning, photos/videos and assessments on this platform.

 Volunteers

During the year we have excursions, a Year 1 Sleepover and a Year 2 Camp. If you are interested in volunteering, there a few things you will need to have up to date to to be able to come along or to help in the classroom.

  •  Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Responding to Abuse, Harm and Neglect training (RRHAN-EC)
  • Valuing Safe Communities (VSC) training
