Reconciliation Action Plan

Join Us – Thursday 7 March

FPS Reconciliation Action Plan

Last year, FPS committed to developing a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

The purpose of this plan is to support the school to build knowledge and pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and contributions, as well as strengthen relationships, respect, and opportunities in the classroom, around the school, and with the community.

What's Been Achieved

The RAP committee, comprising of parents and FPS staff, met and discussed what is involved in the RAP process. The committee sought feedback from our vision statement, reviewed our staff/school survey, and had the opportunity to hear from Sam Roberts – Sam is a Wurundjeri and Dja Dja Wurrung person from our community.

The school’s Koorie Perspectives Team (made up of FPS staff) nominated a few actions from the RAP to implement. We have:

  • Installed our new ‘Acknowledgment of Country Plaques’ on both the Langridge Street and Wingrove Street campuses.
  • Looked into providing staff professional development including Cultural Responsiveness and Competence training.
  • Looked into developing a stronger connection between the Year 5 students’ Yarning Conference work with the early years students.
  • Developed a calendar of significant dates for next year and started planning whole school events and learning opportunities.

What's Next?

To continue last year's momentum, we invite last year's RAP committee members and all interested people to our next committee meeting.

  • When: Thursday 7 March, 3:45 – 4:45pm
  • Where: Meeting Room (next to the staff room in the admin building)
  • Agenda: Review each of the RAP actions and determine some goals and deliverables.

Note, teachers of the Koorie Perspectives team will be present at the meeting.

We look forward to seeing familiar faces as well as welcoming new members!
