Beginning A New School Year in Faith, in Service & in Community

As we step into a new school year, there is an undeniable sense of excitement and anticipation that fills the air. The corridors, classrooms and canteens are buzzing with the chatter and laughter of students reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. Even in the first days of the new school year, there is a positive vibe, an atmosphere that fosters learning, growth and friendship.

One of the most heart-warming aspects of this new beginning are the joyful reunions among classmates. The smiles and laughter that accompany these reunions speak volumes of the bonds that have been formed over the years. It's a perfect reminder of the strong sense of brotherhood that exists within St Bede’s College.

This brotherhood is not just a word: it has a tradition and an important history for us as Lasallians dating back to the first community established by our Founder, St John Baptist de La Salle, in 1680. This sense of brotherhood and sisterhood is a living, breathing entity that thrives on support, understanding, shared experiences and on the service of others. As we gather together for the 2024 school year, we are reminded of the strength that comes from unity in brotherhood and sisterhood. Together, we can conquer challenges, celebrate successes and create memories that will last a long time.

We have all begun this journey, so let us carry forward the positive vibes, the reunions, and the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood that we share. Let us be thankful for the opportunity to learn and grow together, creating a space where each individual contributes to the good of our community. With hope in our hearts and a commitment to support one another, we look forward to a new year filled with friendship, good times and shared achievements.

As 2024 unfolds, may we have the courage to anchor ourselves in faith, experiencing God's reassuring presence. With each step of the journey this year, let us place our trust in the God who loves us, forgives us and leads us along the right path: Per Vias Rectas.

We pray for God’s blessings for a wonderful new school year strengthening our Faith, our Service and our Community!

Ash Wednesday - The Beginning of Lent

Next week, we begin the journey of Lent.

Shrove Tuesday - 13th February

In western Christian churches, the day before Lent starts is Shrove (or Pancake) Tuesday. This day was traditionally the last chance to use up the foods Christians would not be eating during Lent.

Ash Wednesday - 14th February

On Ash Wednesday, students and staff at St Bede’s College will hold a prayer service during which we are marked on the forehead with a Cross of ashes. This is a sign of saying sorry to God for any wrong-doing. The Season of Lent continues for 40 days, culminating in the commemoration of Holy Week and the celebration of Easter on Sunday 31st March.
