Physical Education Report

Hair with Heart

The Physical Education report is a little bit different this week. Instead of sport-based achievements, we are celebrating a student who has been exercising her social and emotional skills in the broader community. This amazing person is Alice M of 4B.

Alice’s recent actions have truly reflected our school value of ‘empathy’- empathy being the ability to understand and share the feelings of others.

Alice has been growing her hair long since prep. In the last year she made the decision to use her hair for a good cause and donate it to ‘Hair with Heart’, a hair donation program run by Variety- the Children’s Charity.

Her inspiration was drawn from reading the novel ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’ and watching videos of primary school aged children experiencing illness that results in hair loss. She also explored inclusive playgrounds built by Variety, such as the local playground located in Livvi’s Place.

During the school holidays Alice had her long locks cut off to be made into wigs for children experiencing a medical condition and have lost their hair. In addition to donating her hair, Alice has raised $1257 for the charity so far, which has exceeded her $1000 goal.

Thank you for thinking of others Alice, your school community is so proud of you.
