Prep News 

Our first walk! 

This week we embarked on our first community walk as a class. We walked from St. Columba’s to the beach and enjoyed playing in the sand and collecting shells. During our walk the Preps worked hard to exhibit the learner profile attributes of principled and inquirer, good work Preps! We will be going on walks each week as part of our Unit of Inquiry into Who we are. Next week we will be exploring the Elwood Canal! 

Expert counters

This week in Numeracy we have been exploring how we are all Mathematicians. In Prep we believe in the importance of having a growth mindset, people with a growth mindset believe in their abilities and it changes how their brain works! When you have a growth mindset you achieve more. 

In the Prep classroom we believe: 

• Everyone is a mathematician
• Problems can be solved in many different ways
• Mistakes are how we learn, they help our brain grow

This week we used our growth mindset to become expert counters. We counted collections as big as 25 and even brainstormed strategies that helped us count all the items, work with a partner and write numbers.
