Staff and Student Learning Assistant Principal Report

VR Immersive Learning Lab

On the 24th November, Lyndale Secondary College officially opened its virtual/augmented reality lab. Many special guests attended our launch, including the Honourable Gabrielle Williams, State Member of Parliament for Dandenong, the Honourable Julian Hill, Federal Member for Bruce, as well as Lana Formoso, Acting Mayor for the City of Greater Dandenong. This launch was a groundbreaking evolution in education – the launch of an augmented classroom, which happens to be the very first in a Victorian State School.

As educators at Lyndale Secondary College, our mission has always been to inspire and equip the next generation with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our Augmented Classroom is a pivotal step for us, towards achieving this goal. In this dynamic era, where technology is reshaping the way we live and work, it is only fitting that our classrooms evolve to meet the needs of our digital learners. Our Augmented Classroom, integrates cutting-edge technology seamlessly into the traditional learning environment, creating immersive and engaging experiences for our students that are aligned to the Victorian Curriculum and the Senior Certificate. Imagine a classroom where textbooks come to life, where historical events unfold before our students' eyes, and where complex scientific concepts are visualized in 3D. Students will be able to visit the Pyramids of Giza, dissect a human heart and measure the angles required to play a round of golf … all through a virtual headset!

As we embark on this journey into the future of education, we will be empowering our students to not only navigate the challenges of today but to become the innovators and leaders of tomorrow. We are incredibly excited by this new resource and hope many of our students come home and share their new experiences in this lab during 2024.

School Diaries 2024

One of the challenges of secondary schooling is the management of timelines and workloads. As students move into secondary schooling, the challenges of managing volumes of work and independent study skills increases.  This is one of the reasons why Lyndale Secondary College provides all students with a school diary.  Our diary is thoughtfully designed with study and wellbeing tips and to do lists that help organise learning. Students can write their homework tasks and due dates in the checklist side of the diary, and write upcoming events, deadlines, exam and assessment dates in the calendar section. Studies have shown that students who are able to effectively use a study diary establish mindful practices, such as recording key notes and reminders. The college seeks the support of all parents in ensuring the diary is used by their child from the start of the 2024 school year, and teachers will also assist students in learning how to manage a diary, a skill that may support your child throughout their school and work life.
