STEM Week 3 Wrap Up

Prep - Year Two

This week the students explored the concept of floating and sinking, we read the story 'Who Sank the Boat' to start and then we asked questions, tried to find the answer to our questions by conducting experiements and then recorded our findings.

Year 3/4

This week the 3/4 students made playdough - what a fun session we had together! We reviewed the concept of measurement, discussed colour mixing and the chemical reaction that happens when you mix all the ingredients together. The students had the chance to follow the recipe and make their own playdough in a small group. We will be using the playdough in weeks to come for some other STEM challenges.

Year 4/5 & 5/6

This week we started our lesson off with reading the book 'Iggy Peck Architect', we got some inspiration for our paper bridge challenge. The students had to create a freestanding sturdy bridge that could hold some weight. There was lots of discussion and team work happening and the students created some sturdy bridges. We followed the STEM graphic organiser to ensure we made a plan before starting and did some reflecting on how they went.
