WELCOME TO THE 2024 SCHOOL YEAR

A very warm welcome to our school community as our first newsletter celebrates the beginning of the 2024 school year. We were so happy to see all our students and their families return safely from the summer holidays, and ready to start a year of learning, new friendships and new adventures. For those amongst us that are new to our school may I extend a warm welcome to Burrendah Primary School. I’m very hopeful that your children will thrive during their time with us and that you will soon form many new supportive relationships that I know signify our welcoming community.

As the new Principal at Burrendah Primary School, it has been my pleasure to meet so many of the students in classrooms and parents and carers at the school gate at drop off and pick up time.  My first impressions of the school relate to the calm and friendly learning environment and our wonderful students who have settled into back-to-school routines very quickly.

Our first two weeks were very busy with our Swimming Program starting on Day 2. We were very impressed with the students as they navigated going to and from the swimming pool each day. I am happy to report that no socks were lost in this process and our students did a wonderful job of remembering to bring and look after their swimming equipment.

STUDENT ENROLMENT DETAILS

Leading up to the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, we welcomed several new enrolments.

Luckily our anticipated class structure did not need to change to accommodate these new enrolments and our planning processes ensured we had the right systems in place for a smooth start to the new year. Currently, all of our classes are smaller than the Department of Education's maximum class size and all of our classrooms and learning spaces are in use.

We are also incredibly lucky not to face any staffing shortages experienced by other schools over the holidays. Burrendah Primary School attracts and retains highly competent and passionate staff members, and we continue to commit to ensuring we support high-quality teaching in every classroom.

A FEW REMINDERS:

  • For safety reasons, dogs are not permitted on school grounds.
  • Students shouldn’t arrive at school before 8:15 am (unless they are participating in Camp Australia) as no teacher is officially on duty until then.  A reminder that students should wait in the undercover area if they arrive before the classrooms open and are not permitted in school buildings or on play equipment.
  • Please remember that children and adults are not to ride scooters or bikes on the school grounds. Students who need repeated reminders of this school rule may lose their bike privileges.
  • Please help look after our amazing staff. Most of them run on encouragement, kind words, coffee and chocolate! A nice comment or email sent to a staff member now and then helps them keep doing the incredible but demanding job they put their hearts into daily.
