Wakwakurna

which means 'children' in Kaurna

As the school year has settled into routine, it has been wonderful to see our students making new friendships, building connections, and feeling at home in their classrooms. This positive start to the term has set the foundation for meaningful participation and student leadership throughout our school community.

We are excited to announce that each class has recently conducted a vote to select their Wakwakurna representatives for 2026. The Wakwakurna (Student Council) is a group that plays a vital role in fostering student voice, ensuring that every learner’s ideas, concerns, and perspectives are heard and valued across our school.

Over the coming weeks, our newly elected Wakwakurna representatives will begin their leadership journey by running class meetings, gathering feedback, and sharing suggestions from their classmates. These regular meetings help students practise important democratic skills, including listening respectfully, expressing opinions, and working together to solve problems.

By empowering students to lead and be heard, we are supporting their development as responsible, active citizens. The Wakwakurna program strengthens our positive school culture by promoting respect, collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging. Congratulations to all students who were nominated or elected as representatives. We look forward to seeing their influence grow as they contribute to shaping a school environment in which every student feels valued and included.
