From the Leadership Team

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are already approaching the halfway mark of the term, and what a fantastic start it has been at Modbury School P-6!
Over the past few weeks, we have had the pleasure of welcoming new families to our school community, and it’s been wonderful to see everyone settling in so well.
Our students are thriving, demonstrating our strength-based practices and living our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Values— Be Safe, Be Kind and Be Resilient— each and every day. Classrooms are alive with learning, buzzing with engaging opportunities, and it fills us with pride to see our students so happy and smiling.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to create a positive and inclusive environment for all.
Open Afternoon
We recently held our first Open Afternoon of 2026 , which was a wonderful opportunity to experience the vibrant community spirit of Modbury School P-6.
Our students took on the role of Tour Guide for their families and expertly (and sometimes quickly!) took their families on a tour of the school, visiting our classrooms, meeting our dedicated staff, and seeing our facilities in action. Students had their Passports to complete and were able to trade in a completed Passport to Mrs Flavel for a Zooper Dooper.
Open Afternoon allows families to connect, discover the innovative programs on offer, and see firsthand how we nurture every child’s individuality and growth.
Congratulations to Swasti, whose completed passport was drawn out of our Lucky Box to win a new school hat.
SUN SMART SCHOOL AND OSHC
We are pleased to advise that our OSHC service has recently been approved as a Sun Smart OSHC service with the SA Cancer Council for the next 3 years. Well done to Nicola and the team! We are now a Sun Smart School and OSHC service.
NAPLAN
Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in NAPLAN assessments starting on from 11 March 2026. NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) is an annual national assessment that helps track students’ progress in reading, writing, language conventions, and numeracy.
To support a smooth testing process, students are reminded to bring their Chromebooks to school fully charged each day during NAPLAN testing.
Please contact us if you would like more information.
R-5 School Swimming
In Week 9, Mobdury School R-5 students will participate in annual swimming lessons at Waterworld. Families will receive an EdSmart Consent form soon via email. Please ensure you complete the EdSmart consent in the note as well as make payment via Qkr! for your child to attend swiming lessons. Information regarding times will be sent out via EdSmart to families.
National Apology Day
At Modbury School P-6, we acknowledge National Apology Day, which is commemorated on 13 February each year. This important day marks the anniversary of the National Apology made in 2008 by the Australian Government to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly to the Stolen Generations whose lives were deeply affected by past government policies.
National Apology Day provides an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the significance of acknowledging past wrongs, understanding their ongoing impacts, and moving forward together with respect, empathy and a commitment to reconciliation. At our school, we recognise this day as a valuable moment to learn, reflect and show support for healing and unity within our community.
Ramadan
🌙 Ramadan Mubarak to Our School Community
We extend our warmest wishes to all students, families and staff who are observing Ramadan. May this sacred month be a time of reflection, gratitude, compassion and connection with family and community.
During Ramadan, many members of our community may be fasting and engaging in prayer and reflection. We acknowledge the commitment this represents and appreciate the rich cultural and spiritual diversity that strengthens our school.
Wishing you a peaceful and blessed Ramadan. 🌙
Fundraising for our Outdoor Classroom
We have several opportunities this term to fundraise towards our Outdoor Classroom.
FUNDRASING EVENT 1: FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
We are excited to host a Family Movie Night in our school gym, with all money raised to go towards our Outdoor Classroom.
We will be showing the movie 'Cloudy with a chance of meatballs' on our amazing new screen. As this is a family event, all children must be under the supervision of their parents, as this is not a school-supervised event.
You are welcome to bring a picnic rug, bean bag or low camp chair to set up in the gym. Please note, we will not be using the school chairs to ensure maximum room in the gym.
When: Friday 27 March
Where: Modbury School gym
Time: Movie will start at 6 pm.
Tickets:
$7.00 - child ticket - this includes a fruitbox and a bag of popcorn
$5.00 - adult ticket
Ticket Sales will close on Monday 23 March
We will have a sausage sizzle available from 5 pm, cooked by staff, feel free to have some dinner and let the kids play on the playground before the movie. We will also have drinks and popcorn available on the night for purchase.
We are looking forward to seeing you. Tickets are now available via Qkr.
FUNDRASING EVENT 2 - ELECTION DAY - BBQ FUNDRAISER
The State Election will be held on Saturday, 21 March. Modbury School P-6 will host a bbq on the day, near the gym, with sausages, drinks and donuts.
Please come along to vote in our school gym and grab some food and drinks on your way. All fundraising money will go towards our new Outdoor Classroom.
Reporting Student Absences
We kindly remind families to please notify the school of any student absences before 9:30 am wherever possible. Absences can be reported by calling the front office or by communicating with your child’s classroom teacher via Class Dojo.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain accurate attendance records and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
The importance of practising our Emergency Drills
At Modbury School P-6, the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our highest priority. This is why we regularly practise emergency drills, including both 'lock in' and evacuation procedures. These drills are more than just a requirement—they are an essential way to prepare everyone for responding calmly and effectively if a real emergency ever occurs.
By routinely practising these procedures, our students and staff develop ‘muscle memory’, meaning everyone knows exactly what to do without hesitation. This familiarity helps to reduce anxiety and ensures a swift, coordinated response, which can make all the difference in keeping everyone safe.
Head Bump Reminder
All children who visit our First Aid room with a head injury will receive a stamp on their hand. This stamp indicates that your child has visited the First Aid room that day for a possible head injury. We will continue our standard procedure of notifying families whenever a head injury occurs. Please remember to monitor your child when they come home with this stamp.
Staffing Update
We wish to advise that our Pastoral Care Worker (PCW), Rahul, has secured full-time employment in the Real Estate field. We valued the positive relationships and connections Rahul built in the short time her was here. We wish him well in his new job.
Modbury School P-6 will begin the process of working with the School Ministry Group (SMG) to appoint another PCW for our school.
The importance of After School Supervision
Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is a top priority at Modbury School P-6. It is crucial that students remain under the supervision of their parents or guardians if they choose to play in the school yard after school hours, which we encourage. This supervision helps prevent accidents and ensures that children are safe while enjoying their time outdoors.
Additionally, for those students walking home, it is important they leave the school premises promptly and walk in groups, if possible, to enhance their safety.
Students waiting to be picked up must stay under the supervision of the yard duty teacher near the Reflection Garden. This designated area ensures that students are safe and accounted for, rather than playing unsupervised in the school yard.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school community safe and secure.
