Year 3 - Middle Unit

The Year 3 teachers would like to warmly welcome you to the 2026 school year. We are looking forward to getting to know your children and working with them to develop new skills and explore new challenges. Students have done a fantastic job settling into Term 1, adjusting to their new classroom environments and day-to-day routines.

Literacy

In Literacy, students have been exploring the different components of the Reading and Writing Workshops. This week in Reading, the focus has been on creating a balanced reading diet and identifying the types of books students enjoy. In Writing, students have been becoming familiar with their Writer’s Notebooks and learning how to plant ‘seeds’ to support idea generation. They have now begun a unit on persuasive writing, unpacking the techniques authors use to convey messages and opinions.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have been strengthening their understanding of place value and developing their ability to manipulate numbers. They have participated in a range of hands-on activities that highlight the importance of place value across many different areas of mathematics.

Camp

Year 3 camp will be held at Adekate, an adventure camp located near Creswick, from Wednesday 18 March to Friday 20 March.

Adekate Camp offers a wide range of engaging indoor and outdoor activities, including zip-lining, hut building, archery, and a variety of nature-based experiences. These activities are designed to connect students with the outdoors while promoting problem-solving and cooperation.

On the journey to camp, students will also enjoy a visit to Ballarat Wildlife Park, where they will have the opportunity to learn about and observe a range of Australian animals up close, adding an exciting educational element to the camp experience.

A Compass event has been created for parents and carers to provide consent for their child to attend Year 3 camp. If your child is feeling hesitant about attending camp, please inform their classroom teacher so we can support them and help alleviate any concerns.

Parent Helpers

We are seeking three parent helpers to attend Year 3 camp. Parents who wish to attend must hold a current Working with Children Check. If more than three expressions of interest are received, parents will be selected at random to ensure the process is fair and equitable.

Confidential Information Form

This week, students were sent home with a confidential form requesting information about camp-specific dietary requirements, allergies, and/or medical conditions. Please return this form to your child’s classroom teacher at your earliest convenience.
