Kitchen and Garden & Sustainability News

Whats Happening in the Kitchen and Garden for 2026?
We are super excited to welcome our students back into the kitchen and garden this year.
Our Year 6 and Year 4 students will kick off the program next week with the theme being "What's in your lunch box?". Students will be preparing a selection of super easy lunch box snacks that you can make at home. It is also a great way to use up left over produce or food in your fridge the dishes can be adapted to whats in season on or offer. A great way to reduce food waste.
Our amazing year6 students will finish off this term with Surfside famous Masterchef competition. Students work in groups to plant a meal item with an indigenous flare with their dish being judged by a panel of VIP guests. It is a wonderful experience for them ad opportunity to show everyone how far they have come in the Surfside kitchen.
In the garden the Year 6 will gather all the skills and knowledge they have developed over their time in the program, to plan, design, plant and maintain their own patch. In groups they wil have a 1m x 1m garden they will plant with seasonal veggies and companin plants that we will then be able to harvest to use in kitchen.
Please ensure your childs permission/dietary form in complete prior to their first kitchen session.
Kitchen: We kick off with M21 and M20 in the kitchen Tuesday next week and S13 & S14 on Wednesday.
Garden: Term starts out with M19 & M22 on Tuesday in the garden and then S13 and S14 on Thursday.
We will email out the final timetable early next week for your records
SURFSIDE SNACK SHACK
Our Snack Shackers will be back, hard at work in the canteen, whipping up some delicious treats commencing week 3. If you are interested in helping with this program then please let us know. We would love to get a Parent Support team up and running for 2025.
VOLUNTEERS
Thank you to our team of fabulous volunteers. Your dedication to our school is gratefully appreciated. Not only did we have a wonderful team of families who came in to help water the garden over the holidays, we also had our hard working team with Warren, Marianne and Leonie, popping in to give everything an extra drink on the really hot days. Thank you to everyone for helping us keep the garden growing.
If you have a spare hour or 2 per week and would like to volunteer in the best program on the Bellarine, please reach out and we will send you some info on how to get involved. Please make sure you check into the office to complete your volunteer induction (everyone must complete this each year - even if you have volunteered in the past) and have a valid Working With Children Check.
Thanks
Clancey and Georgie
