Physical Education

Hi Families,

Welcome to Term One, 2026! We are excited about an action-packed sporting year.

If you are keen to volunteer in 2026, please look out for permission forms and email me when you are available - it can be as coach, scorer. time keeper or team manager - roles are sometimes endless, but assistance is very much appreciated to make these days run smoothly.

2026 Dates for the calendar:

Wednesday 11th February - Swimming Trials (year 3-6 that are 9 plus in 2026)

Wednesday 25th February - District Swimming (selected students)

Friday 13th March - Year 4 Interschool Sports Gala Day

Friday 27th March - House Cross Country at SJV

Tuesday 31st March - Year 5&6 Interschool Sports Gala Day

Swimming Trials

As I have added above, our first District Interschool Sport day will be Swimming.  We will have swimming trials on Wednesday 11th February.  If your child is year 3, will turn 9 by the end of 2026 and can safely swim 50m, then they are welcome to come to our trials morning for the District team.  More information and to sign up for the day can be found at this link here

Team Vic Key Dates

At this time of year some parents will ask me about how their child can apply for a spot in the SSV State Team for various sports.  Here you will find the Team Trial Readiness Guide that will assist you as a parent on whether you believe your child would be ready to trial for one of the sports available. Here  is the information for each sport and here are the key dates for when registrations will open/close for each of the sports.

The following sports are currently open

  • U12 Netball Girls
  • U12 AFL Boys
  • U12 Cricket
  • U12 Basketball Girls/Boys
  • U12 Soccer Boys

Please ensure you have a read of the information sheet that should answer all of your questions.  Parents are able to register your child in a sport that they feel their child excels in without consultation with the school.  Please be advised it is a highly competitive process. If there are more than 3 students that apply for a sport, SSV will advise us at St James as we are only able to endorse 3 students for one sport.  The only other time SJV needed to be involved is if your child makes the Vic Team, the principal will be asked to endorse the student before they can register for the team.  I hope this answers some of the questions you may have.

As always, please get in touch if required.

Stay safe, keep active
