School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support at SMPPS

What is School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support?

The School-Wide Positive Behaviour Framework (SWPBS) is a whole-school approach that promotes positive, respectful and responsible behaviour. The framework clearly teaches and reinforces the behaviours we want to see across all areas of the school, in classrooms, the playground, and during school activities.

Through shared expectations, consistent language and positive reinforcement, students learn how to make good choices and understand the impact of their behaviour on themselves and others.

The impact we hope it will have at SMPPS

By implementing the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support, we aim to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive. We expect to see:

  • Clear and consistent behaviour expectations across the school
  • Increased positive behaviour and respectful relationships
  • Improved student engagement and wellbeing
  • Stronger partnerships between students, staff and families
  • A calm, predictable environment that supports learning for all

Together, this framework helps build a positive school culture where students feel valued, supported and ready to learn.

How we will achieve this

We achieve this by continuing to learn about our school values and the traits that bring them to life each day. By focusing on Be Kind, Be Responsible, and Be an Active Learner, students are supported to understand what these values look like in action and how they guide positive choices in classrooms, the playground and beyond. Through explicit teaching, consistent language and positive reinforcement, our values become a shared way of living and learning together as a school community.
