College Update: Expectations and Reminders
As we progress through the school year, it's important to remember that the College's expectations, established on the first day of 2024, remain unchanged. Unfortunately, there are still some areas where improvement is needed. These areas are highly valued by our school community:
Students are expected to arrive at school and be ready to enter their PCG (Pastoral Care Group) before 8:30am. It can be challenging for teachers, who have just 10 minutes to conduct important activities such as reading a prayer, sharing notices, marking the roll, and checking in with students both pastorally and regarding their uniform and personal presentation. When students arrive late, it disrupts these crucial activities and the care that teachers provide to all their students. We kindly ask parents and caregivers to ensure their children arrive at school on time to start the day positively and to support our teachers in doing their best for all students.
It is disappointing for staff to frequently remind students to adhere to the College's uniform and personal presentation guidelines, including expectations on uniforms, earrings, makeup, and more. This ongoing issue creates frustration among staff who strive to apply these expectations fairly and consistently across the student cohort. We request that parents and caregivers check their children’s appearance before they leave for school to avoid any unnecessary conflicts, such as students being asked to remove earrings and retrieve them after school from Student Services. For further clarification, please refer to the College guidelines here.
On Friday, 31 August, Year 8 students and their parents/caregivers will receive the Year 9 Electives for 2025 Handbook. This guide will assist students in selecting courses for both Semester One and Two, as well as the year-long elective. We encourage all families to review these options thoroughly to make informed decisions that best support the students' educational growth and interests.
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, 4 September (Week 8), at 4pm, when we will host the John Bosco College Year 10 Soccer and Netball teams for a home fixture. We encourage everyone to come out and support our teams, cheer them on, and enjoy what promises to be an exciting and competitive event!
