Showcase in Pixels: Art Competition 2024
Showcase in Pixels is the preeminent Local Government Art Competition, hosted by WALGA, with entries received from 139 Member Councils. This year, Local Governments will receive and submit multiple artworks to WALGA representing their community, culminating in an announcement of the winning works displayed on the iconic digital tower at the heart of Yagan Square.
The 2024 Showcase in Pixels art competition is now open! Interested groups or individuals are invited to submit an art piece to communityactivation@sjshire.wa.gov.au by 12noon Friday 20 September, see below and attached for full details.
This Year's Theme: ‘Heroes Among Us’
Our core theme this year invites artists to cast a spotlight on those whose dedication and selflessness transcend the ordinary, contributing to the fabric of our communities. This could range from realistic portraits capturing the steely determination of a first responder to abstract interpretations that convey the essence of community service. The artwork may include mixed media, digital art, paintings, sculptures, or any form of visual art that resonates with the theme.
Competition Categories:
- Junior Primary School(s) - Up to Year 3
- Upper Primary School(s) - Up to Year 6
- Secondary School(s) - Up to Year 12
- Community Group(s)
- Non-Professional - Individual

Prizes for Each Category:
- Artwork displayed on the iconic digital tower in Yagan Square, Perth CBD
- $250 voucher for art supplies

‘WA Stories’ is the latest exciting series of Chamber Music.
Dive into a spellbinding odyssey where extraordinary music, captivating visuals and vivid narration unveil stories of renowned and forgotten figures that made a stamp on WA history under ‘Otto’ the blue whale at Hacket Hall, WA Museum Boola Bardip.
The three stories:

School Student Broadband Initiative
Are you eligible for the School Student Broadband Initiative?
The Australian Government has launched the School Student Broadband Initiative to provide free home internet for one year for up to 30,000 unconnected Australian families with school-aged students.
The program is available to all students who lack an active nbn connection at home. Families can register until Dec 2024.
To be eligible, families must:
- Have a child living at home that is enrolled in an Australian school.
- Not have an active National Broadband Network (nbn®) Internet service at home. Having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility.
- Live in a home that can access the National Broadband Network via a standard connection – this will be checked for you.
Families can be directed to the following to register:
